Wow Great Listen !! at the 15 min mark they talk about Steve Nash ... I do think there is reverse discrimation at times in the NBA ... A lot of disrespect toward Steve Nash ..

        • With the #NBA preseason nearing its end and opening day just a couple of weeks away, #Canada will enter this season with 15 athletes in the league, more than any other foreign country for the first time.

This is pretty amazing. No one could have predicted this 10 years ago, and I think only people intimately knowledgeable about the Canadian basketball scene could have predicted it (with fingers crossed) even 5 years ago.

Yes there was a time as early as 2006 when Denham Brown a Canadian getting drafted in 2nd round was a big thing in Canadian Hoops ..

Can we get a shout out for Leo "Run NBAers Run!" Rautins a.k.a. Leo "Did we just lose to a 1-6 team from PANAMA???" Rautins a.k.a. Leo "Nash Repellent" Rautins a.k.a. Leo "Captain Obvious" Rautins a.k.a. Leo "Glass Knees" Rautins" a.k.a. Leo "Only Two Canadian NBA Players Will Talk To Me, And One Of Them Is My Son" Rautins?

Leo would screw this next generation of talent royally. Can't wait for the Nash-effect to transform the national program.

I may have trust in Nash getting players to play but Jay Triano with 4 NBA'ers didn't get a top 5 spot and missed out on this summer's worlds ..

Jay's record as Head coach of Canada without Nash as his PG is quite horrible ... Leo without Nash got his Canadian squad to at least the worlds

Both of them are terrible, for team Canada to reach its full potential we need better head coach's

Nash and Triano led Canada to the to the quarterfinals in Sydney and beat teams like Spain and Russia. It's the only time Canada's even qualified for the Olympics in the pro era.

Nash also helped them qualify for the 2002 Worlds, where they finished 13th without him playing. The only time Leo got the team to the Worlds, they finished 22nd.

The program has a lot of work to do and hopefully they get repeated buy-in from these young guys, but Leo Rautins was sure the face of the underqualified staff that helped the program underperform for years. Much smaller countries with much smaller talent pools have achieved a lot more during the same time - I don't think we have any good excuses.

Nash lead ... Nash's has made a lot of coaches look like geniuses ... Nash coaches Gentry , Mike D'Antoni and Jay have had their best years with Nash as their PG ...

Jay Trainao as Head coach of Raptors was a disaster ...

                          • I'm having a hard time getting a read on whether Birch is going to stick with Miami. Minutes have been up and down through preseason, but he's got a per 36 rebounding rate of almost 13, to go along with good defensive numbers, which has to count for something. As far as I can tell, he's in a battle for 5th big with Shawn Jones, but it's questionable whether Miami will actually keep a fifth big. I'm really rooting for him to stick somewhere (at least get a roster spot and then go to the d-league for playing time), because I think he has the potential to be an excellent defensive/rebounding specialist.

                            • Do any of the canadian hoops junkies have an idea on the details for Olympic qualifying next summer? Also, do we expect full participation (Wiggins, stauskas, Bennett, Thompson, Joseph, Ennis)?

                              • Next summer is the regional tournaments. Canada will be in the FIBA Americas. Top 2 teams (not including Brazil and US who have already qualified) qualify directly for Olympics. The next 3 teams in the Americas tournament qualify for the Olympic qualifier, which will be July, 2016. The top 3 teams (of 12 in total) from that tournament advance to the Olympics.

No idea on participation. Personally, I 'expect' that all of those guys should play, but those aren't the same as realistic expectations.

                                edit:
here's their recent participation rate of the NBA/fringe guys in the last couple years:
Participated in FIBA Americas in 2013: Joseph, Nicholson, Thompson, Heslip (Bennett and Olynk spent time with the team but did not participate because of injuries)
Participated in FIBA U18 in 2012: Wiggins, Ennis
Participated in exhibition tour in 2014: Bachynski, Ejim, Joseph, Nicholson, Olynk, Powell, Sacre

Stauskas is the only notable guy who hasn't played with the team in recent years (last appearance was at the U16 in 2009, but he did train with the senior men in 2012. Birch also hasn't played with the national team in a few years but did train with them in 2012.
