That is a side step of a very direct question. Wiggins is giving himself some wiggle room with his answer. The reporter inferred that qualifications are at stake at the Pan Am Games. He is confused.
Yeah, it's clearly not the end of the world if Wiggins skips the Pan Ams since they don't have any bearing on Olympic qualification, but it does serve as the perfect warm up for the FIBA America's a month later, which is where we can qualify for the Olympics. The reporter was probably confused since the two tournaments are so close in time and will likely have the same or very similar roster.

    Pan Am Games: July 21-25
    FIBA Americas: August 25th-September 6th

Basically, we really need Wiggins to commit for the FIBA America's, which is at the end of August and won't conflict with Summer League if Minnesota really wanted him to play. I also think resting from now until the end of August is more than enough for a young guy like Wiggins. Even if he does the Pan Am and FIBA, he still has most of April, plus all of May and June to rest up.

No way Scrubb is available. He HAS to go to Summer League. He's the one player dependent on SL for a potential job. He will not get drafted.
Not for the Pan Am games, but there's a decent chance he'll be available for FIBA Americas, which does not conflict with summer league. Only way he's not available for FIBA Americas if he gets signed by a team following summer league, and is told not to participate. But at the level Scrubb is at, it's more likely that summer league just gets him on a few teams' radars, doesn't get him signed. He's more likely to remain a free agent all summer, and might get a shot at a training-camp invite. If that's the case, he needs to play as much basketball all summer in-front of scouts.

Does anyone know what the roster rules are for the Pan Am games? Canada's first game is July 21st. Last year, LV summer league ran until July 21st. Any reason why they can't keep a couple spots open for summer-league guys who might miss the first game?

On a camp invite there's no way he risks that without a guaranteed contract. No way he's available for Canada. Only way he's available is if he plays poorly, and then, why would Canada want his services?

Was going to ask if anyone is watching this? I will definitely be tuning in to see some Jamal Murray and Thon Maker.

Ya, grade 9,10 & 11. They were saying how they don't even do that in the States.

Matur Maker. I think he's 17. So a year younger than Thon?
