  • FIBA rules experience is a huge thing in these tournaments as well. HAving guys who have played and understand the differences between FIBA and NBA is abig plus.

I would love to see guys like Sharpe, Mathurin, and Nembhard get a look. The trouble is we are loaded at the 1-3 spots. SGA, Dort, NAW, RJ, Brooks, and Murray and Wiggins added in is 7 guys or a 12 man roster.

You could argue that one of the 3 young guys takes NAW's spot, but while he was inconsistent, he had some big games and shot almost 40% from 3 for the tournament. He jsut turned 25 and is still impoving as well.

We need to find some young bigs that can contribute. Leonard Miller is my dark horse. He measured out at 6'9.25" without shoes with a 7'2" wing span at the draft combine. He tunrs 20 at the end of November so maybe he could even be a little taller. If he has a good rookie year, adds a little beef and learns to play with and against grown men, he could be a valuable understudy to Kelly and Dwight.

Yeah we're basically all wings but talent is talent. We play a 4 wing plus a center lineup and there are enough minutes to go around.

I'd love it if we could add another useful big but they need to outplay Olynyk and Powell to get minutes. Kinda doubt Miller will be there by the summer but maybe.

This big thing is a North America issue also ... Americans trying to find the next big .. In last Olympics their big
was Green .. Maybe it's because the NBA wants all their bigs to shoot 3 and not enough time spent in the post .

Heck even Victor Wembanyama who will become the tallest player in the NBA will be a Power Forward .

        • Embiid to Team USA. Soft ass move.

Team Canada counters by signing Marc Gasol.

If I'm the USA I would want to win with homegrown talent to prove to the world that thier still #1. If they win teh Olypics with Embid you can argue it was bought with international help.

I can think of more harsh words then soft ass but you did say it perfectly ..

What would mean more .. Winning gold on a team that doesnt need you to get Gold or playing for your birth country and maybe achieving their highest finishing ever ?

The good news is him playing for U.S means he isnt playing for France or cameroon and that makes both those countries weaker .

He could have did the Lebron thing and try to get Spicey P and make Cameroon stronger but he isnt a leader he is a follower .

              • I have no idea why Joel even applied to make the French team if he wasn't serious about it. Either way I agree.. it makes France a bit easier. Although they were already using Gobert and will get Wemby too. So Embiid was likely not going to play as much if he went there. But it's also super early. Doesn't Embiid get banged up at the end of the playoffs? Dude is always hurting. Not sure if it makes sense for him to continue his basketball season into the summer without a break. But he's not a Raptor so I don't really care.

As for Cameroon, they still have to qualify and there is no guarantee they will. I'm sure their qualifying tournament will happen during the NBA season. So it's not like they'll have the big boys help them.

I know Canada will never do it, but they really should consider naturalizing some foreign born center. Poeltl would be an excellent fit for example.

Schroder is going to whisper in Poeltl ear in German to join the German team before he even considers Canada.

Poeltl isn't German though so he'd need to be naturalized there too in order to play. Germany is also pretty set at Center with actual Germans.

I'm fine with a little outrage when a guy is granted citizenship solely to play for the national team, which is exactly what just happened with Embiid. He was only a citizen of Cameroon until summer 2022 when France and USA both gave him citizenship specifically to play for their national teams. I think that's lame and deserves a little outrage.

Yeah, my sister and her family have lived in the US for decades, paid lots of taxes, put 3 kids through university, done lots of community work etc… and they’re still waiting for green cards.
