I get that there are practical considerations for all the players but it's not as though Wiggins is a free agent. He has a guaranteed contract.

Super tough loss against a beatable team. France exposed our biggest weakness. Our guards which was our strength weren't that great (outside of Shai and RJ). France decided to bench Gobert which was smart. It allowed them to have more switchable forwards with girth out there. And they made us pay by getting to the free throw line over and over again. Some of their guards hit some big shots. That one dude in the first quarter. And then Fournier at the end of the game.
Of course there were referee shenanigans and we did lose out on some valuable possessions when we were trying to crawl back because of them. Who is allowed to get 2 points on a charge call? But ultimately I don't like that excuse very much. France played a great game and for the most part we didn't and they deserved the win.
Murray should have seen more of the bench late, so that we had the ball in Shai and RJ's hands more. RJ was basically snuffed out and he got us to a 5 point game at one point with a big 3 and two big free throws. Our front court was all over the place. Powell had a tough game. Birch was able to get boards but wasn't very good defensively for the most part. Kelly was a disaster (I think he was out there for two possessions - got a foul, and then a turnover and then was benched). Edey could have helped some what.. but not having Clarke I think was a bigger deal. As Clarke has size and quickness to contest big players like France had.
But when you are down 16 or whatever it was in the first it was going to be a tough slog. Canada looked rattled because of the crowd. France was energized by it. Wish we had some of those early looks go down to silent the crowd and make it a better game. Brooks was pretty bad. He was 1-9 and got fouled out. His defense was okay but he's had better games. Dort was better but also played dumb sometimes. That steal late was great, and surprised they didn't call a foul on him.
So we have to wait another 3 years for the World Cup and then the Olympics again in 4. LA should be fun. Less home cooking refs (they don't need it). And we should get everyone to join again since its all pretty local for them. Have to qualify first though. And that part isn't easy unfortunately.

Win or lose .. I am proud of these guys .. It's the knock out stage and anything can happen .. Only one lose in a tournament can still
get you no medals .. It's just when that loss occurs ..U.S in 2006 World Championships were 8-1 with a 134 point deferential but
still only got a bronze ..

The Great One wrote: View PostI questioned the roster construction from the very beginning. It wasn't a joke when I said washed up Thompson would be a MASSIVE upgrade over Lyles, Powell, Birch and Olynyk. Lessort and Yabusele made Canada's bigs looked like a bunch of idiots.
Tonight was a one man show. SGA didn't get any help. Murray = disaster. Not sure why he played so many mins. Nembhard who was so good the other night barely played tonight, I don't think he even took a shot.
Nick Nurse probably would've found a way if he was coaching(fuck the Sixers).

Again, the Warriors cannot do that. They are bound by the FIBA-NBA agreement which requires NBA teams to allow their players to play in major int'l competitions. To my knowledge, the only requirement they can impose is that the player be properly insured.

Teams can hold back their players if there's a question of health, and supposedly the Warriors were playing that card. But maybe, like you said, it was also a convenient hidden excuse for Wiggins to bow out... that part we don't know.

So I was just reading about Edey. His situation is a lot different than Wiggins. The Grizzlies didn't block Edey. Edey remove himself from consideration to play for Canada so he can prepare for his NBA career.

Can we please put this to bed? NBA teams cannot stop players from playing for their country. It's a player choice. Yes, the teams can certainly pressure a player but Edey was a lotto pick and had enough juice to say fuck off.Last edited by Primer; Tue Aug 6, 2024, 05:04 PM.

Let me know when this happens and I'll put it to bed. Name me the rookies who were just drafted who played for their national team instead of doing summer league and training with the team who drafted them. I'd like to hear which guys had enough juice to tell their new team to fuck off. Got a funny feeling it's zero players.
I can't think of anyone else.Mamba Mentality
