Canada Basketball announces camp roster ahead of first 2023 FIBA World Cup qualifiers - Sportsnet.ca

I know it won't happen but would be nice to see KEVINPANGOS go play .. It is not like the Cavs
    use him much ..

You are right . What are they trying to achieve ? Can your country's D squad beat another country's D squad ? They want to mimic soccer but Canada is playing Mexico tomorrow and Canada is fielding their best players cause their club team's allow them too and they do it for every nation .

FIBA is not the same a FIFA, right now the NBA (G-league) and Euro League are not on board to release players for qualification windows. Soccer has a precedent set that goes back decades, FIBA is starting something new for basketball. It used to just be the FIBA Americas championship that had you qualify directly and then maybe a last chance qualifier, now they are trying to duplicate the soccer model. It will take time (years) before they can work something out with the major basketball leagues around the world.

            • Canada soccer is 4 wins 0 losses and 4 draws .. I wonder if the momentum of the men's squad and seeing the excitement it is generating will cross over to
the men's national team in basketball ?

              • A.J. Lawson who plays in the G-League is playing for Canada this weekend . Didn't know that .. The game is on sportsnet and so that is something new .

Brampton's A.J. Lawson set to debut with Senior Men's National Team (basketball.ca)

From the writeup seems like a player who plays the Raptor style... with NN coaching it is an interesting dynamic.

Nate Bjorkgren will be coaching this group. NN will only coach in the summer when he isn't coaching the Raptors.

A.J Lawson is too raw at the moment to get many minutes.

Canada will face the Bahamas in 2 games this upcoming Sunday and Monday.

                    Starting lineup will probably be:

                    PG - Aaron Best
                    G - Phil Scrubb
                    SF- Thomas Scurbb
                    PF- Kyle Wiltjer
                    C - Owen Klassen

Should be more then enough to beat the Bahamas in these 2 games.

That looks like the probable starters. Not sure how much size Bahamas has, could see Anthony Bennett in the mix. He's had a decent start to the year shooting the ball in Europe.

                      • I heard that Sportsnet has the contract for all the FIBA games for the next few years. I believe that includes men's, women's, U19 etc. Maybe soccer as well. So they will all be available on TV. Really looking forward to the basketball.

I was listening to a podcast and they mentioned Kassius Robertson and Kenny Chery are 2 players that we should expect a lot from this weekend .

I don't believe it matters what size Bahamas has. They have only like 1 guy who is decent from the Euroleague (Travis Munnings) the rest are not up to par vs Canada's top 7 players. This is not serious team who's made up of a few guys who are not even playing professional basketball no more.

                              • Wow what a great game to watch . For a team with very little practice time they showed some amazing ball movement and wow and some great shooting .. They scored 115 points to come away with a 40 point win .
