I know he's a really good player, but I've never thought of Shai as the type of superstar player needed to win a championship. Even Tatum who is probably a tier below guys like Curry, Kawhi, KD etc. couldn't elevate his team in the finals. Not sure if Shai is on the Tatum level yet.
To be fair he has never really had a chance to prove himself. OKC has tanked the last few seasons and have shut down Shai whenever he gets any sort of injury.

What would Shai look like playing on a team that has winning players and that plays hard and wants to win games?

You might be able to use this last seasons version of the Celtics as an example of a group of 1B's, and they did make it all the way to the finals. At the end of the day though, it was the team with the 1A which prevailed.

Looking forward to what Masai has planned for this team.
They aren’t making 1A’s like they used to, so 1B’s should be good enough in the future.

It’s not like Masai doesn’t want a 1A, but 1B is the best we can get right now.

And he's young enough where he can hit another level. He's just not at that level yet though.

I agree if he can get Shai then he should. I just don't agree that a team of 1B's has a great shot at a chip. That's why I brought up Boston because they are a team of 1B's that lost to the team with a 1A.

It's a pretty rare occurrence for a team to win a championship without a superstar. Would have to go all the way back to the Billups Pistons.

If you have enough 1Bs, maybe the pressure is off enough that one of them slides into the 1A slot. Maybe one winds up with a 38% three-point shot and high efficiency from the midrange area and has high-level passing chops. Just sayin'.

While I really don't know what to expect from the AmeriCup squad. It doesn't look like stiff competition. Banton and Trae Bell-Haynes is a good back court in this competition. If their frontcourt players can hold their own they might do OK.

Argentina just released their coach, will their NBA guys that played in the qualifying window suit up for this.

Here is a link to potential rosters. https://www.fiba.basketball/americup...-americup-2022
Canada lost their first game to host Brazil, 72-63. The Canadians really struggled shooting the 3, going 3/28 in the game. If they can tighten that up a bit they look like they will advance out of the group phase of this tournament. Brail is the favorite in their group.

Nobody should yet. He clearly has the potential and from the looks of things, the work ethic as well. His 2nd and 3rd seasons will be pretty telling of what type of player he becomes.

I think it's a positive sign that it was only a 9 point loss to the host team ... No exhibition games and this team was just thrown together

U.S also lost their first game ...

Jayson Granger and Bruno Fitipaldo won’t be joining the party and that will cause a significant offensive drop-off, but head coach Rubén Magnano is a specialist in team play and knows how to get the best out of his men. Luciano Parodi and Martín Rojas will carry a bigger burden, and so will veteran stalwarts Esteban Batista y Kiril Wachsmann. They’re always a potential spoiler and they showed it by beating Puerto Rico, but they haven’t achieved a great result at the continental level in a long time.

                    • Is the AmeriCup televised or just on some streaming network like DAZN? It's like a tournament nobody cares about at all. Pretty sad actually.

It's on Dazn but is also being streamed for $13.99 (I think) for access to all games. I saw a link to stream it on the Americup site I believe.

Delano is not having a great tournament so far. Getting points, but bad efficiency. Partly because nobody on the Canadian team is shooting well enough to get double teamed it sounds like. Hope his third game is better as he gets used to his teammates.

                          • Banton is only shooting 1 for 12 from 3, so far. Not exactly what you would want to see from him vs inferior competition. Improving his 3-pt shot is a make or break skill for him to stick in the NBA.

You are right . You think the one guy with a NBA gig on the team would be showing us more and like you said against inferior competition .. Flynn against inferior competition trains tons of 3's and gets 60 plus points ..

It's two games against unfamiliar opponent and unfamiliar team-mates. I wouldn't draw too much conclusion out of this.

There is no rhythm in those games. Maybe in the 3rd game we will see something.
