Canada was out muscled by Turkey yesterday to the tune of 67 boards (23 offensive) to 40 for Canada. Shooting 31.6% did not help, either.

Canada U17 beat France 99-68 and finished 5th at the FIBA World Cup U17. We were the 2nd best team in the tournament for sure. We choked. Just like our NT last year. Shit happens.
1st place: likely USA
2nd place: Turkey
3rd place: Lithuania
4th place: Spain
5th place: CANADA

It's not a great lineup when you look at all the NBA guys who are out and the holes at SF are glaring. Just looking ahead to a France matchup, Batum vs. Ejim is going to be a really tough matchup for us (no disrespect to Ejim, who I really like). Joseph will have his work cut out against Parker, and if France starts a lineup with Parker, DeColo, and Batum, it's going to be hard to hide Heslip on defense, even though we'll probably need his shooting. We'll need to dominate the glass which is our one potential advantage with Birch and Thompson.

As a group, the current roster is better in some regards to the one that fizzled out in Mexico. The additions of Thompson, Birch, Anthony, and Thomas Scrubb shores up rebounding deficiencies and is an improvement on defense. Stauskas, Nicholson, Olynyk, and Wiggins (yes Wiggins!) are all in the range of poor to below average NBA defenders. Their offense will be missed, for sure.
Too bad that Nicholson, with that fat contract in hand from the Wizards, won't make himself available now to the National team.
