I'm just asking for more rebounding and consistent scoring. Yes his post game is lame, but he can shoot open 3's.

If you want him to shoot threes primarily (and you should), his scoring is going to be inconsistent, threes are high variance shots.

It's a misleading individual stat. Too many variables limit it's usefulnes as a comparative measure of one players impact vs another.

It CAN be misleading. It depends on whether the person looking at the stat understands what it is describing.

No one has ever claimed that single game plus-minus is a good measure of a player's ability or even contribution to that game. But it is often descriptive of how the game went, in which minutes it was won or in which minutes it was lost. While larger sample plus-minus, and especially the various adjusted versions of the plus-minus stat, can stabilize and wash out context and start to describe a player's ability and season long contribution (within the role they play).

But either way, it's important for anyone discussing those numbers to understand the basic idea of single game plus-minus, upon which those impact stats are built.

I'm saying if Gasol plays a touch more aggressively, it will likely lead only to more missed two's, not things that will actually help the team. If the team is going to take the leap from very good to a great, true, title contender, the difference is not going to be Gasol forcing his own offence.

You can frame it as giving him credit all you like. Mischaracterizing a player's strengths and weaknesses does no one any favours.

Nope. I honestly think your either not giving him enough credit "guys drop off fast when they get old" or just settling for what he generally does because you don't like anyone criticizing him for some reason.

Good point. At times we see +/- used when a player for example "had 0 points but was a +3". It's a team driven stat and as you mention any single players role in generating the number is context related.
