Something the protests seem to be reinforcing is a bunch of active, relatively healthy, relatively young, people moving about outdoors are at very low risk of transmission - even in large crowds.
Early info that came out was that transmission risk is very low outdoors and very low with short contact. I remember the initial warnings were about 20+ minute indoor contact at close proximity. I think two things have happened:
- Public health decided to simplify messaging and the whole thing became about distancing, group size, and in some places, masks. That's it now. All other context or info is out the window.
- Media using fear mongering to drive clicks threw all context out the window a long time ago. Now every person you get near is your potential killer. Or you're theirs. Honestly this is really bad for our social well being as individuals and as a group. It's going to have some long term negative consequences beyond the virus.
