Please read it thoroughly. Based on multiple reviews of different reports, I suspect this one is accurate.
Protect yourself everyone.

Apparently the Raptors have been instructed to self quarantine.
It is unfortunate that our neighbors to the south have a President who doesn't understand, doesn't see the importance in understanding and chooses to not really act. It will impact his people significantly and also impact Canada, possibly significantly, for that matter.

COVID locks down the league like a cybog version of Kawhi. All all seriousness though I hope this blows over quickly and no one is greatly impacted by the disease.

Over here in Markham (north end of Toronto GTA), a lot of people have been wearing masks and avoiding restaurants, malls, community Centers, etc... for almost 2 months already. We remember SARS. Hopefully, it will make a difference.

The separation will slow the spread and allow us to cope. Whatever the official number of cases are, the truth is that there are already 10 times that number walking around spreading the virus without being aware of it.

I'm in Markham as well. It was weird going out around the Lunar New Year and not seeing restaurants packed like it normally would be. I thought the Asian community was taking it too seriously when I'd see them in masks back then, but clearly they were much more well informed than the rest of us.
It is debatable whether or not a mask will help you. It is debatable that a mask might increase the chances of you catching the virus or something else. Reason being if the mask does not form a tight seal around the face they can get contaminated fast and where do we all get enough proper clean masks that fit right to protect us? How do we know it fits right? How do we know we're wearing it correctly, using it correctly? The mask might give a false sense of security and pose a danger. There is some information that suggests it might be able to be caught through the eyes, not just through the mouth and nose.

Yeah the regular masks don't protect you at all, but they can help prevent spread if you're infected. That's always true for airborne viruses e.g. colds, flu, etc. The motivation for wearing them when your sick in Asian countries was originally that sick people going about their day were trying not to infect other people - that evolved into healthy people wearing them to try to not get sick but there was no medical rationale behind that.
Only the N95 masks really prevent it and yeah, they're in short supply and you're only supposed to wear them for a couple hours at a time. We need to save them for health care professionals.
It's easy to laugh about but there's a huge difference in the impact on affected countries and how early they took their response seriously. Last stats I saw South Korea and Italy have a similar number of confirmed cases but Italy has over 3x the fatality rate. South Korea was better prepared sooner, got people tested and quarantined sooner, and really mitigated the impact of the virus. Italy took the "it's not serious 'till it's serious" approach that a lot of us have been laughing about (myself included) - problem with this is once you realize it's now a serious issue in your area, it's already too late.
Yeah the stats are nuts. 80+% of infected people will basically be okay with mild to no symptoms. So first reaction may be NBD, right? But just under 15% of infected people require hospitalization due to severe symptoms and just under 5% require intensive care. So very feasible - imagine even just 300,000 Canadians get the virus. Suddenly we need 45,000 hospital beds and 15,000 ICU beds. Guess what. We don't have anywhere near that kind of capacity in our health care system. And that's just 300,000 cases. That's what Italy's hit, having to decide who gets intensive care and who doesn't. First world countries haven't had to deal with a medical emergency like that in nearly 100 years.
Glad to hear people are using common sense in some places and just reducing the rate of spread. Slowing it down could allow the health care system to respond within its capacity. Hopefully our low population density in many parts of the country actually helps us out for once.Last edited by S.R.; Thu Mar 12, 2020, 10:22 AM."We're playing in a building." -- Kawhi Leonard
