    Sweden vs it's neighbors
14 deaths over 18 days? Looks like they had one really bad day where they lost 7 people. Mind you, they lost 505 people to the flu last year, and thats with a majority of their old folks vaccinated, so it could have been a lot worse. The flu scary too, 10% of all cases for older folks end with a meeting with the grim reaper.

505 over a whole year? Hope they don't match that number but it's not looking good. They already lost 308. In what? 2 months tops? People talk about flu but when was last time you got hospitalized over a flu? When was last time flu overloaded hospitals? This virus is putting people on ventilators.

Did you read the article I was referencing that Keon quoted?
No I scrolled up and didn't see where the reference came from. I'll look again.
The point we're missing each other on is I think steps they've taken so far are relatively fine but I think the panic narrative they're pushing is over the top.

Others seem to think that terrifying the general population because of where we might go is OK.
        100 deaths! 100 deaths!
Where is the mass hysteria for the average flu season or when a bunch of teens commit suicide @ 30X that rate? That's right, there needn't be. But I guess the suicides don't tie up hospitals that we might need so who cares right?

And I wasn't asking if you knew what the next punitive strategy should be. I wanted to know if you were OK with night time curfews if we get to 1/10 of 1% affected or would Marshall Law make more sense to you?

Also, maybe off-topic but a point on youth suicides: it is driven up (considerably) by social isolation, online hostility/negativity, hopelessness for the future due to grim career/personal outlook, alcoholism/drugs, drastic changes in routine, familial stress/instability and lack of attention/care from older adult figures. Thank goodness our response to the virus doesn't affect that so... oh... wait...shit...

            • Honestly mods respectfully please delete this thread. Nothing positive is coming out of it.

yes respectful discussion is positive and (hopefully) 90% of readers know what to roll their eyes at.

but then there is the other group that reads shit and thinks that Trudeau is trying to make you brainwashed and depend on the government and that reader in turns goes somewhere they shouldn’t when they have symptoms and ultimately kills people.

To the bolded, remember when you gave DanH a hard time for Hyperbole? No one said "who cares".
And you shouldn't conflate the two. Just like when you tried to compare this to Car Accidents as well. One is a highly contagious pandemic, and the other, while obviously still a tragic issue, is not one that we necessarily need to shut society down over for fear of it taking over. There's a difference.

And I guess I just don't see the panic narrative - I see Trudeau come out everyday like Mr. Rogers and talk to everyone calmy like adults.

I had underlying anxiety and panic attacks that i have only recently come to terms with. The last few weeks have been tough, couple of panic attack. In the past my body would feel more like i was having symptoms of a heart attack. But the ones in the last few week have me thinking im short of breath and working myself up from there. It weird how your mind can manifest these things based on what your worried about. I've just been trying to avoid all news but its still always in the back of your mind when you know your stuck in the house all day.

It actually proves nothing. EVERYBODY'S numbers curve up like that, even the draconian Wuhan and Northern Italy lockdowns. At least Sweden is trying to have an economy to come back to.
Canada has one of the shortest and shallowest curves out of any country its compared to for a reason:
                    https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/coronaviruscurve/

Pretty much only South Korea has fared better. US has the steepest ... for a reason. Yes, Sweden has half as many cases, but already nearly twice as many deaths. Both of those are only going to get worse before they get better because of Swedens early decisions.

what reason? for doing something? imagine how small our curve would be if our leaders had have acted instead of carrying water for the chinese health organization.
edit add: this link i just found on yahoo's homepage.
                      https://ca.news.yahoo.com/coronaviru...195454813.html
“We are very concerned about this information,” Foreign Affairs Minister François-Philippe Champagne said, at the ministers and public health officers’ daily press conference. He said he had just wrapped up a call with NATO allies on the topic and international partners are aware they need to speak with one voice to uphold facts and a science-based approach.
“People watching at home deserve answers, they deserve data, they deserve the truth when it comes to actual data,” Champagne said.
Canada draws its information from the World Health Organization (WHO) and it doesn’t rely on one country’s data, Health Minister Patty Hajdu added.
“There’s no indication that the data that came out of China, in terms of their infection rate and their death rate, was falsified in any way,” she said.

the curve is bad in new york, and california. it got in in sanctuary cities. all the sanctuaries on earth are over run from hugs, and kisses.

we are all inside because we all care about our olds. but saving our olds now, so our young can suffer through starvation, and suicide probably isn't the best plan.

new plan is to print money indefinitely, tell the populace to remain scared, and understand that the government just needs everything to fix this, and they will let us know.

if our media wasn't using this as hysteria city(canada has been better than america, thanks to funding from our liberal overlords, but if sheer were in charge it would be like in usa here) we would all be coming through this better.

today when we see what ford is going to show us, and if it is still just models, and maybes we might get some new information.

right now the 12 years the models gave us for climate change, have been switched for a few months for socialism to fix this problem caused by socialism.

Get a buddy to call when you're getting worked up. I have 2 different friends that suffer from panic attacks/anxiety and call me regularly. I have a friend that suffers from depression and we meet for coffee every Friday for years as part of his coping mechanism.

Yes, let's cut off any opinions that differ from our own.....
I haven't seen a single person on here say that we shouldn't be social distancing and all bars and restaurants should be open for instance. Just that we shouldn't be panicking people beyond what facts and data actually point to.

As I said, perhaps Ford and Trudeau's upcoming modeling discussion will be helpful. I'd like to know the parameters of where medical professionals see this going, if they have any idea beyond X and X times infinity since I personally don't think they have any idea yet.

The other question I'd like to know is why is COVID potentially worse than previous and recent "pandemics" and are we likely to have a new and potentially more devastating strain every decade or so? Super bugs have been discussed forever. Will COVID I, II and III come around every Winter?

                            Ah, censorship is OK...

I'm social distancing, going to get groceries once a week, and washing my hands as much as possible, etc. I'm taking all of the precautions our government is telling us to.

Despite following all of the rules, I don't agree with what our governments are instructing us to do based on the data so far, but what choice do I (or many) of us have?

That being said, people are allowed to question and have their own opinions based on facts that are presented.

                            • People keep referencing the swine flu and spanish flu, but for some reason nobody ever mentions the pandemics of 1958 and 69, which both killed about 2 to 3 million, in a population less than half of what it is today. It would be like killing 7 million now. Nothing shut down. No sports, no business, nothing. This is a pandemic no different than the 4 in the last century. But its gassed up to be the end of days.

                              • This article was written in the New Yorker on March 9th. It's been a long few weeks since that day. And people have changed too. Now we're heros for snitching on our neighbors for leaving their house.

The quarantines in China were misguided and too much, too late, Parmet told me. They have been done in ways that could jeopardize lives, because healthy and ill people are stuck together in vast geographic regions. “In these massive-scale quarantines, you are pushing deeply into potential human-rights violations,” Sauer said. “We have to be careful about everything we condone, whether active or passive. This is the time when social norms can change, and personal liberties are at risk.” By their nature, quarantines encourage xenophobia, division, and the muscular exercise of state power.“There are also long-term political consequences,” she added. “The intangible consequences pushing toward authoritarian rule concerns me a lot.”
