Just tweeted to Raptors, "For real change the top 50 players agree to only accept contracts to the NBA cities which have police departments that treat black citizens like white citizens?"

I think that would put large pressure on police and city governments with NBA teams. It might help out TO as well, not that they don't have their own problems, as we have seen numerous times. This would be direct action, and team ownership that is serious about helping could step up with market equal offers for salary ranges. Imagine the impact if 15 of the most equitable team locations got all of the top 10, 20 or 30 players for the next 2-3 years. Could change the face of sports if other sports professional players started doing the same.
Except there isn't enough under the payroll cap to take those 50 players on what would be a very limited number of teams. And then the "racist" teams would suffer massive fan reduction resulting in team failures and definitely a further reduction in salary caps. Plus, a racist Atlanta police force (for instance) isn't going to change because the Hawks suck....they already do.

    • Flagrant on TRoss? The NBA had been a joke with their flagrants in the bubble.

      • The Magic are stuck in no man's land. They will probably use the Aaron Gordon and Isaac injury as an excuse. They're not really any good even with those 2 healthy. Bet you they're going to be fighting for that 8th spot again next year lol.

Gordan for derozen maybe. They got some young guys that can improve still. In a market like orlando at least there making the playoffs and having competitive games. Could be in a worse spot. Not winning anything but they can compete for 2 to 3 more years for 5-8 playoff spots.

Those 50 players are all going to get contracts when they become free agents. So there is going to be money for them anyway.

NBA franchises bring a lot, a lot of money and jobs to a city. If all you have to do to attract good free agents to a city is clean the ass hats out of the police department and put in an accountable police chief, and you can expect improved on-court performance, and thereby fans who spend money, go to bars/restaurants, buy merch, do a little shopping because they are in the city anyway, you would do it. Teams spend a lot of money. Player salaries make up about 58% of team expenses. The rest goes to staff, operating expenses, and non-team staff costs. Over 40 million dollars going to to the city exclusive of what fans spend and what players spend locally. Not to mention what and/or who having a franchise staffed with good players will attract to a city.

I think the possibility of attracting upper-tier talent to your city would promote taking action.

Or maybe not. Never know unless it is tried.

Gordon for DeMar? That's not really going to do much.

Maybe they need a scorer tho. Think they should cash out on gordan. Try demar for a year and if not you clear all that cap space next off season

Appreciate your ideas Puff but there's a super healthy politics thread for this discussion.

                      • Watch Schroeder’s right hand in the replay when he runs into the pick. Kinda looks like he suckers him in the um, groin area. Perhaps I’m wrong, but maybe that’s why he got
                        ejected.

                        • I haven't been watching, but the OKC/HOU series has strangely only had 1 close game. Two evenly matched teams, expected a tighter fight. Both teams seem inconsistent?
