7-11 treadmill & lottery team after Shaq left & after Lebron left. Nothing really impressive about treadmill. The culture talk only comes up when a star player arrives in South Beach. The culture is all about acquiring the star player.

The culture leaves when the player leaves, just like Duncan and the Spurs, even though he’s still a coach. How much talk do we hear about Spurs culture these days?
    The culture is still there.
We don't hear about the Spurs coz they haven't been winning.
And winning is finding the right player/s to lead the team to success through that culture.
Duncan was that player for them.
When he retired, winning retired with him,
    but not the culture.
Culture is what the organization sets for the team. It will only change once the organizations decides to change or drop it.

    • Success is when culture meets talent. Culture is really important, but you still need talented guys to lead your team. Where would we be without Kyle? Most would say our culture is top tier but without Kyle we're in the lottery most likely. If the LA Clippers culture was as good as ours, they probably win a chip this year. Generally, you need both talent and culture to win at the highest level in the NBA.

      • I forgot about this. So did Kawhi signed off on the Doc firing? I thought Doc was his guy? did he defend Doc and Balmer went against his wishes? lol. This is hilarious.

        • Not sure why everyone thinks Heat have this amazing organization with awesome culture. They drafted D. Wade which made them relevant but other than that the organization benefits from being in Miami, a free agent hot spot. End of story. I mean James Johnson was a staple of that roster for how long? Dion Waiters...yup, poster boys for great culture.

Meh. They were a lottery & treadmill team before and after Lebron. And they missed the playoffs before Butler arrived, just like the TWolves. Where was all the talk about culture during those down years?

Nobody talks about Spurs culture now that Duncan left and they’re losing.

They've been below .500 3 times in the past 17 seasons. And Lebron or not, 6 finals and 3 (4?) championships, they are one of the most consistent franchises of the last 20 years.

And I talk about Spurs culture. They definitely have a system that conducts themselves professionally and expect them to be back relevant soon.

Is 'culture' just a stand-in for good leadership? Riley was a good coach and is a good executive, he keeps the team competitive and winning at least, gets to championships at best. Spo adds to that. You hold down that kind of leadership, you have a perennially competitive team.

This is what the Raptors need with Ujiri/Webster/Nurse. Really hope Ujiri is here another 10+ years.

              • Culture is what you value. Miami signed Kendrick Nunn. A lot of teams would not sign him because of his history. And that goes with many things.

And they made a big deal about fixing James Johnson and Dion Waiters to adhere to the Miami way. How'd that work out? This whole "Heat culture" talk bubbles up to annoying levels when they're winning.

But that's their culture. Miami always give guys like that a chance it seems. As long as they bring fearlessness or toughness. So when they signed Butler it was pretty Miami thing to do.

They fixed James Johnson and Dion Waiters enough to trade them in a package for Iguodala and Crowder who will probably spend time guarding Lebron and Anthony Davis in the NBA Finals tonight. I’d say it worked out pretty well.
