  • GAME 4: Toronto Raptors vs Boston Celtics 09/05/20 6:30 PM ET SN

All hope seemed lost. Kyle Lowry had done his damnedest to put the team on his back (playing 46 minutes!), but when Kemba Walker served a fantastic dish for a Daniel Theis dunk with 0.5 seconds left it looked like the Celtics were primed for an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the series. But then:

Salvation, in the form of the ice-cold OG Anunoby, making sure that the Raptors Die Another Day. Just like last year's ECF, a down-to-the-wire Game 3 was clutched to salvage a 2-1 deficit. Just like last year, there is life.

    KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Three-ball -
The Raptors shot 32% from deep in Game 3, which while not amazing was their best mark of the series so far. They're sitting at just 28.3% for the series (Celtics are 38.7%), compared to 43.3% against the Nets and 37.4% in the regular season (Celtics shot 35% against the Sixers and 36.4% in the regular season)

    2. Starting Frontcourt - Gasol played his best game of the series in Game 3, finally finding his mojo on the defensive end and doing a good job finishing at the basket (though he still couldn't hit a three). Siakam's struggles at the offensive end this series have been well-documented, but he's still playing good defence for the most part and showed some life in the second half of Game 3, finishing with 16 points, 7 rebounds and a game-high +12. The Raptors need those two to outplay Jaylen Brown and Daniel Theis if they are to complete the series comeback

    3. Workload - On top of Lowry's 46 minutes, OG played 45 and VanVleet played 40 (and would have played more if it wasn't for late foul trouble). This was because Nurse severely tightened his second half rotation to basically six guys, only trusting Ibaka off the bench. It worked, but it's not sustainable for an entire series, much less a long playoff run like the Raptors have their sights set on. Whoever Nurse taps for the 7th, 8th, maybe 9th man roles in Game 4 will be crucial

Shots are starting to fall. Here we go. Raps in 6.

Play Terry, Nick. You need a real bench look, and Terry is the key.

Ya they need to find minutes to rest the starters. Boucher/RHJ, Thomas and TD should get a few minutes against Boston’s bench players. Keep 3 - 4 of the Top 7 and mix these guys in for a few minutes.

Norm is going to make a difference in one of these games. Is Game 4 the one?

Lowry was awesome getting to the rim. Kept the Raptors in the game until the shots started falling in the 4th. Need to mix up the offence like that. Points in the paint have been a Toronto plus overall, Boston doesn't have rim protection. They do have Tatum/Brown trailing guards to the rim sometimes and they can stuff our smaller Lowry/Fred drives, but it still helps overall.

Boston now has Brown defending Siakam post ups one-on-one, those aren't scoring and aren't collapsing the defence. The Raptors need to stop even trying, let alone clearing out the side and standing around watching. Get Siakam going with his easy buckets, put him in the p'n'r, look ahead for long passes (Lowry got him a couple last game), etc.

Mostly keep doing what they're doing, they could be up 2-1. Just keep putting in the effort and play with some confidence. Those plays where a guy changed his mind last second on a layup attempt or three point attempt - Boston's length and disruptiveness was getting into the Raps' heads and you become your own worst enemy at that point. Can't let that happen. Play with confidence, do what you do, execute your stuff.

Siakam's defence on Tatum was very good in game 3. I like our chances if you're forcing Brown or Kemba to be their best player. Don't let Tatum score 34 in rhythm.

Zone has been really good, keep mixing in different zone looks. Throws Boston out of sync.

Stop pressing on the break off turnovers. Raptors forcing things when Boston gets back - it's a turnover, but if you're 5'11" and going 2 on 3, then maybe pull up. Raptors having trouble stringing stops/buckets together to make runs. Be patient off the turnovers.

And most of all - let the fucking 3's fly! If this team were shooting 35-40% from 3, they'd have just won the last two games by 15-20 points each. Everything else is more or less working.

                Love that fred quote.
They did fuck up,going to sweep them like we swept the bucks. Went from being up 3-0 in there minds to having to claw for there life. we have been here before. Celtics crumbled last year after jumping out to a lead vs bucks. They did lose a locker room cancer but they gotta be thinking about that series in the back of there heads.

Nice to see all the negativity and "we're gonna get swept" get killed off in one glorious swish .... what would the comments have been if OG had clanked that one or been blocked? You gotta love sports

OG definitely gave us some life.. but this is a critical game too. Huge difference from being down 3-1 to having it a 2-2 series with momentum on your side. Hopefully someone gets an efficient shooting night tonight (well other than OG who's been awesome).
