During Masai's time here, we still had Derozan and Lowry, Masai was planning to trade Lowry to the Knicks in 2013, didn't happen and instead the Raptors over achieved and made the Playoffs, so Masai rode with those 2 for the next 6 years, the franchise got better and better, but we didn't have enough cap space to even sign a star FA, so Masai worked on making trades, we traded for Kawhi and won a championship. Kawhi left because he wanted to be in LA no matter what, and now we're in a situation where we have enough cap space to sign a star.
Of course signing any star player is a long shot, but we haven't been in this position before. Even if we strike out on the superstars, we can still sign a few high quality players on good contracts to potentially trade down the line for a superstar.
