Chuck Hayes + Landry Fields

Everything to do with Landry Fields depends on whether or not he has made any progress with his shooting. Has the extra time since last March/April allowed rehabilitation and improved shooting? If yes. then he is definitely a trade chip...but if his shooting has improved, then maybe the Raps want him on the floor. If his shootingnhas improved and the injury healed, or at least improved, he could possibly be resigned for a lot less than his current salary, and probably at less than market value because of concerns.

Under that scenario (improved shooting and under market value) I want him on the team. The Raps need several "under market value" players so they can afford to pay more for all-stars, to get to where they want to be.

If he's made progress and returns to form he will be good but at this point, Raps. will be better off trading him. Considering he is in the final year of his contract and teams will most probably show interest, Raps. should take advantage.

I agree that "under value" players are good to have so cap room is created and Masai has shown the inclination and ability to sign such players or even trade for them.

Trade Landry, but keep Hayes. Hayes has a good repoir with Lowry, and provides a good, veteran presence for young bigs like JV and Bebe. Plus, there are going to be times where JV's inexperience is being exploited by opposing vet bigs and Hayes is handy at times like that.

Personally I like to see we trade Fields to Sixers for Shved + 2015 2nd rounder, then we waive Cherry and have Shved being our third string PG

Saric is going nowhere. The Philly rookies and some of the front office went to the FIBA World Cup to hang out with him.

There are a lot of guys in the league who can fill that need at lower than $8.6M - remember he is in the final year of his poison pill deal. He is only a $6.23M cap hit but he costs over $8.

So which move makes logical financial sense? Holding on to these guys until the trade deadline? Letting them expire at the end of the season?

I say let them expire unless there is a trade to be had at the deadline that improves the team long term. No need to be trading future assets to be clearing room for the likes of Cherry or Hamilton.

I believe taking back salary in late august when just about all the free agent dealing with said salary expiring in April is less costly than taking back salary in late august that won't expire until two Aprils during which another free agency will take place.

The Dudley trade is similar to the cost to move Fields , a protected first.

Trading Fields shouldn't be difficult. Even though he hasn't done much here, he has earned a reputation in the league and teams are always looking for good SF's. It may take sacrificing an asset to trade Hayes. If the return is good, why not? If not, hang on to him for a year. But for his salary, he's pretty useful actually.

Having $12M in salary opens up a lot of trade possibilities. You waive them and replace with $2M and suddenly not too many options out there.

That's a good point. But..., if there is no good trade scenario I'd rather waive Fields and keep two of the three non-guaranteed contracts. I think Fields is done in the NBA after this contract, while Hayes is actually pretty decent for a back up.
