  • Thats a big extension for Jrue. Bucks are pretty much locked into the core of Middleton Giannis and Jrue now. Dont know if thats enough to compete with these super teams for the next 3 years. Bucks going to have to hope some of these buy out or good vets want to come join up for cheap the next few years

Analytics guys can say all they want and sure there are occasions when advanced stats can be useful. But the eye test never fails to see when a guy is washed up when before the stats can catch up to the current product.

He did. Started here and it's carrying on there. He went 6 months at age 35 without playing professional ball, then showed up washed up to the bubble. That's alright, father time is undefeated and catches up with everyone - problem is when neither team nor player recognizes that, which is what happened here. I had no doubt if we had played more Norm & Serge instead of him in that close 7-game series we beat the Celtics.

Water under the bridge though. Seeing this now with the Lakers is revealing, however. Shows that both him and Serge are proud guys. There was probably some jousting for position/role in the offseason, we ended up not able to (or choosing not to) please either, both walked, and we're going through this season without a real Centre. Hopefully it was all for the best, and this helps our tank so we can come back stronger next year back home.

I mean he wanted off the floor in the Celtics series. He knew he was hurting them in that game 7. The only one who didn’t know it was Nurse. He was clearly done. Had a great career. But if someone is going to give you that kind of money hard to say no.

On that note, the NBA should institute a minimum return for teams "waiving" players like Drummond and Aldridge. No way they should be allowed to walk for nothing to help stacked teams. It's bullchit and undermines the integrity of the league imo. Maybe make it a minimum 2nd rounder if they're picked up and lower teams pick first
There may be another way to "fix" buyout situations & several decent players all signing with 1 or 2 contenders..
Player (lets say Drummond) gets put on waivers. Nobody claims him, then Cleveland can make a trade/deal with any team that has cap room) to trade Drummond while new team "bids" on how much of Drummonds 28 mil they want pay/assume (Cleveland still pays the rest). This still helps Cleveland hugely and less $$ for Cleveland to pay -more stays for younger players (any money teams save on dead weight -like Drummond, Griffin...can be spent on other players. In the end players get around 50%, so if team wastes money on Drummons...buyouts, less left)
Edit: Trading partial contract (old team assuming a certain amount of contract, while new team pays rest) -think baseball. Few year ago ARod was traded to NY yankies & his old team paid quite a few buck of that huge contract.

i think it'll work out for the best because at best we lost a competitive second-round exit. nothing too crazy.

That extension is nuts. He's going to be making twice as much as Freddy and which one of them is having the better season?

They're actually having pretty similar seasons. both are good defenders, Fred is close to 20/4/6, Jrue closer 17/5/5. Difference is Jrue is the stating PG on the 5th best team in the league, and Fred's team is out of the playoff picture at the moment. Still, that Jrue contract is 40M/yr, he's not that kind of player, and that's not even considering he's turning 31 this season.

                      • I think that contract has a lot of small market tax on it.

Bucks had no choice. That’s the cost of keeping Giannis happy. What a crazy high cost, though. Bucks have 3 max players and no legit closer.

                          • Giannis is going to regret signing that max if his goal was championships.

Agreed. A big 3 of Giannis, Holiday and Middleton won't cut it.

I agree too, Middleton is massively overated, and holiday, I don't know really what to expect there on a regular basis.
