You just have to slow them because there defence is so poor. Most teams will be able to get their offence, its just a matter of making the nets work to get their buckets. That wont be easy no doubt, and you have to understand that you will likely lose 2 games in a series just cause the big3 were shooting well or able to knock down those clutch shots down the stretch, and maybe another game cause the role players were on fire. Thats almost to be expected. So any team that will shrink mentally if some of that comes to fruition in a series wont stand a chance. But if they are mentally prepared for that type of grind and keep working hard defensively, they might have a shot. There are a few teams in the east that have that shot, including the raps, so the nets will likely face 2 really tough opponents, maybe even 3 depending on how it all shakes out. I'm not confidant they can get through the east on offence alone.

Now if the nets figure out how to deploy even a league average defence, then they should cruise to the finals.
The thing is you can't make the Nets work to get their buckets. You normally do they through some combination of putting your best defender at a guy, doubling, showing help, shifting the defence, etc. You can do that vs one 1A scorer like with the Bucks, you can't do that vs 3 1A scorers and a 3 PT shooter you cannot leave open at all. Doesn't even matter who the 5th guy is at that point.

How do you load up on Durant? Congratulations, you've just sagged off some combination of Kyrie, James Harden, and Joe Harris.

That's why most teams have just been playing the Nets straight up - and getting slaughtered. Because one on one for Kyrie, Harden, and KD is advantage Nets. They can do that all day. But helping off other guys is even worse for the defence. What do you do?

I'll be really interested to see who figures out how to beat them in a 7 game series, but presumably it'll take elite defence and potent offence. Not sure the East has it.

We're close - our defence over our recent, more successful stretch has often been really, really good, and our offence, while not Nets-level, has at time really clicked. But we'll probably have other problems in the playoffs and might never actually match up against them if we're an early out.

Miami can probably defend the Nets successfully by throwing Butler on Harden one-on-one and sending help on KD selectively (and has the caliber of coaching to create the schemes needed to do this). On top of that, the Heat have a physical play style, particularly on defense, that Harden and Irving probably have not seen a lot of... and the Heat seem to be able to play with that high level of physicality without a lot of fouls being called. They'll need more than just Butler to score though, especially if he's expending a lot of energy on the defensive end.

Yeah I actually agree we're close. For the Nets you need 3 above average individual defenders to put on their stars 1on1 without help., and a good paint-anchoring C to protect the rim, so during defensive rotations and switches we can be confident in aggressively contesting 3's..Not sure we have the C for that, but you can put OG on Durant, Siakam on Harden, and Fred on Kyrie and be confident these guys will do a good job on that end.

The challenge on that is with Fred & Siakam exerting that much energy on defence, you typically won't get a a lot of efficiency from them on offence. That's when you need Kyle, boucher & Norrm to pick up our raw scoring, which they should be able to do against the soft Nets defence. Then there's also the fact that for at least half the game, Harden, Kyrie and Durant are not on the floor at the same time - they'll start the halves and close the game but fo the rest of the game is usually just 2 out of those 3 (which is still a lot but doesn't demand as much of your D).

Of course that's just in theory, but I actually think a 7 games series vs them is quite winnable. Boston is who I think has our number. They have less raw talent the the Nets, but they defend the perimeter extremely well (take away our 3's), and usually can contain Siakam inside too. Their roles players/bench are confident in their place inn the rotation and have clear defined roles (while we're still tinkering with about 13 different guys depending on the game. Need to figure out a good game plan for them too.

        • Agree. If raptors play raptor D we have a chance vs brooklyn. Unfortunately being last in rebounds will be the difference. Cant give that team second chance points. Their first chance points is way enough already

          • 7 out of 15 teams in the East have exactly 17 losses. 9 teams have 17 to 19 losses. Holy mediocre.

I wonder if the NBA has a 10 sided coin to help determine seeding and the draft order.

But we slowed them when we played them. We have og for durant, siakam for harden and fred for kyrie. I'm not sure there is another team with the quality of defenders to throw at that trio, plus we've got other bodies like kyle, bembry and boucher. We can definitely make it hard on them. Im not expecting these guys to shoot 6-18 every game. It will be tough, but if the nets have to face 3 strong defensive teams in the east, i dont think they make it to the finals. The celts, heat, raps will put up a strong defence. Bucks too of course, and even the knicks have a good defence this year. Its not a foregone conclusion, unless the nets figure a way to play some good d.

                • You don't play the Nets 1-1.. you switch on everything.. as everyone on our team is a plus individual defender that can guard the post or the perimeter (except for Baynes I guess). If you switch and play a funky zone type of defense you would be better off than going 1-1.. as the Nets will use screens and hockey assists to get guys open. They have a killer drive and kick game. That's when they get open and kill you from 3 or get to the rim easily.

But as a starting point.. I'd go Pascal on KD for length. Fred on Kyrie to bother his handles and get him off his game. And OG on Harden who's our best Harden defender. You need Lowry to stick to Harris/Shamet/TLC or whoever is going to be their gunner.. and Baynes/Boucher on Jordan/Green. But we could go small on them and have success as well. Use Norm/Kyle to cover their shooters.

I believe we play them 2 more times.. one on a second of a back to back so that might get ugly. Hopefully when we do, we get the full Brooklyn experience.

Most the Rockets can offer before the off-season. Dipo wants more term evidently

                          • From SN:
Justise Winslow scored 20 points and the Memphis Grizzles pounded Houston 133-84 on Sunday night for the Rockets' 11th straight loss.

In just his fourth game back after missing more than a year because of a hip injury, Winslow, playing in his hometown, had his best scoring night since October 2019.

Zero wonder why Dipo won't sign an extension, even though he also wants term

Haven't seen much of them this year but you've got to do something in year 3, especially with all the money spent this offseason. Team starts to go backward in those circumstance and it's lights out for a coach.... Isn't McMillan an assistant there? Seems like a logical guy to take over on an interim basis.
