The Celtics took the best player in their rankings. If the Celtics kept the first pick they still would take take Tatum, they traded down because they probably had inside info that Philly wanted Fultz and LA wanted Lonzo.

Most mocks had Fultz and Lonzo go 1 and 2 as well. So really smart move by Ainge

What I got out of this is: don't do what the Cavs and Kings front offices do and have a look at what the Nuggets are doing.

Denver was bad for a while, and then did exceptionally well with their draft picks - first Jusuf Nurkic (who they eventually traded for assets), then Jokic, Jamal Murray, Juan Hernangomez (also traded), Malik Beasley (likewise), Monte Morris and MPJ in a four-year span. Even then, they still whiffed once on Emmanuel Mudiay.

"Draft well and also get a transcendent player with one of your draft picks and then another star" isn't really a strategy. Teams just use their best judgement to try to do that anyway; the trick is to make sure your judgement is as good as possible, and the Raptors have invested heavily in scouting for that reason. The Raptors have been drafting extremely well for the most part; I trust that whoever they draft this time around will be at least a good player, with a strong chance of being a star.

I would look at 2017 draft specifically between 76ers and Celtics.

So 76ers select Fultz and Celtics pick a guy who they always wanted and who they valued more. So GMs gotta be smart.

See also 2018, when the Hawks traded down to Dallas because they wanted Trae rather than Luka, and got an extra first-rounder out of it. Luka is definitely the better player overall, but right now Atlanta is 1-1 in the Eastern semis against the best team in the conference so Trae was hardly an indefensible choice.

Tre Mann definitely has shades of Lillard and Beal. Probably the same on defense, lol. But who cares.

Shot creation or bust should be the goal for this off-season, either by draft or trade.

He's got a great one on one game but that's where the comparisons to Dame or Beal stops for me. You'll notice he doesn't get to the rim much because he's slow and not very athletic or explosive, and is an awful defender. If he can put it all together though he has a chance at being something special

I'm not saying you are wrong but spacing in college is trash so he'll have more space to operate in NBA. There is that potential.

The stat you showed on unassisted FG% was eye-opening. That really turned me off Davion Mitchell. Another tiny guy who can't create off the dribble is not what we need on this team. Tre Mann has that in spades.

Yes absolutely or it could go the other way as well and guys don't bite on his fakes at the more disciplined NBA level. One way or another he's a great shooter and that is a skill every team could use more of.

we are talking about college three as well. I'm really not sure about Davion. Scares me as a prospect

The one thing that is overrated in prospects/NBA stars is athleticism. I mean being a great athlete can help for sure, because the GOAT was one of the best athletes ever.. but you can be dominant in today's NBA without being an elite athlete.

Plus guys get hurt.. and when all you are is an athlete and you get hurt.. your career is pretty much over. Guys like Wall, Rose, Blake, etc are just never the same. And unless these guys develop their intangibles they will flounder. MJ, Lebron, Kawhi all figured out how to play like the old man at the YMCA.

So Mann being slow may not be an issue. He looks like he can play.

Again a great year to be a middling team. Teams like Boston, Memphis, Washington will have a great pick.. and all got into the playoffs.

Was a good year not to tank IMO lol.

It's a deep draft, not really stacked at the top although the top 4 is clearly in a better tier than the rest. There is no Lebron or Hakeem or Shaq in this draft though. So not really a great draft to tank in. You can get a great pick in the 13-17 range. And that's why I think a "treadmill" team will do well this year.

The only advantage of being in the lottery is having a chance at the top 4.. but a guy like Suggs, Mobley or Green could have the same type of impact a guy like Mann, Garuba or Bouknight have.. and at least one of those guys will be picked by a playoff team.

So hindsight being 20/20 you would rather not have a chance at a top 4 pick...? Also, you would rather have been destroyed in the first round against Brooklyn? Risking potential injury on our main guys who just wanted the season to be over at the end? Mobley is a VERY different player than Garuba. You don't tank JUST to get one guy at the top because chances are you won't get it. I think it is a deep draft but I think its also a good draft and the top people are solid.
