How do you know he doesn't carry a lot of downside risk?

Because he's consistently evidenced good shooting ability, smart defensive IQ and decent playmaking. That, combined with his size and lack of health issues, give him a floor that's basically "decent NBA starting player" because he has the skills to play point guard while being 6'8".

I know you really like Jalen Green, and that's fine, he's a good scorer and shooter, there's a lot to recommend him. But his lack of defense and turnover rate are concerning, and he could absolutely turn out to be a Dion Waiters rather than an All-Star level scoring wing.

He's not a rebounder that Draymond Green was. Who he gets compared a lot. If we are playing Barnes at centre we are not playing smart small ball we will be just small. I don't see a point in that

to me if you have Barnes you could play him at point possibly but I just wouldn't do it. too much redundancy.

Yeah, that's basically what Nurse did to hide a non-shooter like RHJ, who had some ball-handling capability. It forces the other team to at least stop the ball. It would be similar to the Giannis strategy.

That's the whole thing, though. If Barnes never develops shooting, you'd eventually have to build the offense around him with 4 shooters to space the floor and have him initiate the offense with the full head of steam, just like Giannis. And Siakam isn't exactly what I'd call "a shooter".

Sixers haven't gone full turkey that way with Simmons, so he's sub-optimized and disappears from time-to-time.

yeah before his RFA trade him while potential tag is still there. That applies to every player we might draft. I'm not gonna wait forever for them to develop. But let's not do Bargnani mistake. Colangelo refused to accept that he was a bust and move on from him. Yes it was a waste of pick but you gotta know when to end the experiment. golden was just talking oh we would have to build around Barnes if he doesn't develop shooting. we shouldn't be planning on building around ANY rookie who is unproven.. the only person who you may want to plan for is Cade, or Mobley. Mobley is so seamless that it isn't a concern. Cade is looking good but again.. he hasn't played a single NBA level minute... sooooooo yeah.

Yes totally agree. Like they need to prove they belong and they worth it. And hitting grandslam on this draft is hefty expectations.
