Nuthin. That's not really all that surprising. The Cavs are going to draft a guard. When you have the top pick and there's a great big and a great guard/wing, you ALWAYS take the guard/wing.

again don't use the wiseman draft as a marker. GSW only drafted wiseman in my opinion because they needed a guy not because he was equally the same prospect. They had no center and had a chance to grab one. I didn't think Wiseman's skill warranted him getting picked that high. He was mocked in some cases to drop as well.

How do people remember the 2011 draft? It was not as "top 4" focussed as this one is but we were definitely in the market for a point guard in those days (it was the Jose/Jarrett Jack/Bayliss days). At 5 people were really high on Brandon Knight and maybe a step less high but still interested in Kemba Walker. The conventional wisdom however was that both would be gone by the time the Raps came around at 5. But then...Cleveland did something weird (that can't happen again...can it?) and both were there for the taking. That's when we learned how to pronounce "Valanciunas". Just saying...things get weird.

Gotta say.....there was mad love for Kanter in those days and I have to respect one of the commenters who suggested taking some skinny guy named Leonard with our pick. You still here?

I like it. Although, lately I've been thinking Leonard might be our guy. Bayless might be able to hold down the fort this season at PG, and depending on whether he sinks or swims, we can attempt to address the PG hole in the 2012 draft (if required). Therefore drafting Walker may not be as much of a priority as once thought.
Aside from Leonard's skillset, he has that "motor" that doesn't seem to stop. The kid's super hungry. And with the unfortunate passing of his father, he seems to be very mature for his age. The weakest part of his game (his jumper) has been miraculously transformed in a matter of 6 short weeks. That kind of steep learning curve should not be overlooked, and speaks volumes of his work ethic.
Plus he's from Compton, which can only help his chemistry with DeRozan, lol.9 time first team all-RR, First Ballot Hall of Forum

I think it is worth remembering that Cleveland's front office and scouting is among the worst in the league, which is part of why they keep getting so many high draft picks. They signed Kevin Love to a massive, untradeable deal when it was clear he could never live up to the terms of it. They drafted Joe Harris, then paid Orlando to take him off their hands; he promptly signed with the Nets and immediately proved that Cleveland had made a mistake. They passed on Shai and Mikal Bridges to reach for Collin Sexton, and now that Sexton has proven himself to be a capable scoring guard who can anchor an offense and be a decent secondary playmaker... they're looking to move him.
Cleveland with the #3 pick? Christ, for all we know they decide Keon Johnson is their guy, then explore trading down for the pick, can't figure out how to do it, and end up drafting him with #3. And before anybody says that's unrealistic, that is exactly how they drafted Anthony Bennett with the #1 in 2013.

1) Cavs go full Cavs and pick Kuminga or Barnes
2) Any 2 of Suggs/Green/Mobley falls to us
3) Of those 2 guys left, Orlando really wants the guy that we don't want
4) We trade "down" to 5th and still get our guy, plus the Magic pick at #8
shades of going up to 4 from 7.
