Yes. I still got Suggs #2 on my list.

6'5 is undersized? 6'5 is the perfect size for a SG.
suggs wing span is tiny though

I'm totally in agreement with BPA. However sometimes the existing roster, minutes & role definition prevents the rookie from showing his talent. The coach has a big say in that, obviously.

For example, suppose BPA is a point guard and we still have Fred and Kyle dominating the ball. That PG may never even get a chance to show what he's capable of, unless Fred and/or Kyle get injured. Isn't that sort of what's happening with Malachi, right now? That kind of happened with OG, the year we had Kawhi and OG took a huge step backwards as a bench player (other factors were also at play). And to a lesser extent with Norm, when Fred took his spot as starting SG out of training camp last season, and didn't get a starting spot back until OG got hurt.... this season. In all of these cases, the duplicated player only got a chance out of necessity. Similar case with Boucher... he would be a sporadic bench player if Marc and Serge returned or maybe we would have just let him go. He's a useful trade asset now.
OG and kawhi on the floor together was nutty though

      • I like Barnes actually. Seems like a guy who plays with some fire which this team needs. Also our offense has typically thrived with multiple ball handlers on the floor together and Barnes projects as a real good passer. Has to work on his scoring though so might be more of a project than this team has time for.

I still think Rap may try to move the pick for a win now player.

What you said can also be achieved if it is attached with 1 of Siakam or Van Vleet especially as both are the highest salaried players

Doubt they will trade either of those guys, maybe sign and trade Lowry with the pick?

I'd be surprised if they trade FVV, OG or Siakam. Many are down on FVV and Siakam, because they think they've regressed, but they are much, much better than they were in our championship year. Those two have added a lot to their games since that season, but they are missing that all important lead player/scorer they had that year. You would never know how good Klay is as a player without Steph, and I liken FVV/Siakam to that situation.

Unless we are picking in the top 3 or 4 which seems unlikely I think Raps try to move the pick in some sort of package for an established, win now type of player. Key word being "try".

If the pick is in the 5-10 range I wonder if they try to move down for more assets, to set themselves up better for a trade down the road.

I don't think we're inclined to move the pick without a large salary going out with it. We need some cheap players on rookie deals, we're basically capped out once we resign Trent Jr., and presumably we use the space available before we resign him on a C like Holmes, so we'd be over the cap after signing Trent.

                    This...

unless they are fully invested and believed that the core especially both our no.1/no.2 options will go back to their previous better performances. Another factor is if they hope that OG/ GTJ (if he accepts Raps offer), Flynn and the new pick will elevate their games to another level.

My concern is this....before the season started...there was consensus from this forum that the hope was for Siakam to recover from his playoff bubble disappearance and Van Vleet to further improve considering the increase usage.

That failed, (the 2-8 start) was significant, of course they were able slowly got back to it mid season before they both went down due to covid. The hole they dugged from the very beginning made it difficult for the remaining healthy players to assume a bigger role.

Now we are going back to the “hope machine”

Correct me if I'm wrong, as my understanding of how the cap works is poor.

Could the Raps not sign a C like Holmes with the cap space they have, and then use Trent Jr. and Lowry's birds rights to to go over the cap and resign them?

Anyone with bird rights has a cap hold. This is an imaginary cap figure teams have to add to their team salary before seeing how much money they have in free agency.

Trent Jr's cap hold will be about $4.7M.

                        Lowry's cap hold is $39M.

If you add $4.7M to our cap.. we'll have about $18M in free agency to spend on Holmes.

If you add $39M to our cap, we'll be capped out, and can't afford Holmes with cap space. We could try to get him using our mid-level which is about $9.5M.. but most teams will get that.

If Lowry comes back, we will be capped out. If Lowry is traded, any contract that comes with him will probably cap us out unless we can trade him to a team with cap space (like Miami). If Lowry walks, we'll have plenty of cap space.

Well that would make a lot of sense then if Lowry walks, no? Masai does right by him to let him go where he wants, and we get enough cap space to sign a C and resign Trent. Say Trent gets signed at something around $15 M per, what would we have left for everything else?

                              • Or just do this...

trade Van Vleet/ Boucher/2 SRPs for Brogdon and Sabonis
                                trade Siakam for KAT

pick Barnes or Kai Jones (if top 10)
pick Giddey or Wagner (if mid teens)

sign GTJ for 15-16 mil per
sign JJ Reddick (MLE) as our 6th man

                                retain Bembry, Yuta and Watson
sign a couple more vets to round out the bench

                                develop further Flynn
