Is it really possible to know what BPA actually is? The draft is such a crapshoot that the concept of BPA always seems laughable in hindsight.

I agree they are all projects, but Kai Jones looks like to too much of a gamble. Very low floor compared to other player in the 7-11 range

Yeah, but "reach" implies that BPA is known in advance, when that isn't known until possibly years later. I mean, the extreme example is the 2014 Draft, where you could say that almost everybody passed on BPA (Jokic).

Changing the definition of BPA to Best Projected Available. Hope that clears up using the term.

Do you think analysts were pulling their hair out all draft going "I can't believe all these teams keep passing on Jokic, he's so clearly the BPA!?!?"

We have to draft someone on draft night and teams pick one of two ways. The best player available based on their scouting and projections; or the best fit for their specific team need, e.g. If you've got Jokic on your team and BPA is a C but you really need a PG and one is ranked slightly lower on your pre-draft rankings, you go with the PG because it fills a need and you won't have minutes for that C.

With the way our roster is constructed we are firmly in the BPA not need based camp.

Still doesn't make using the term BPA any more valid or useful in actual practice. BPA is a just a fancy term for consensus ranking, which has been shown time and again to be wrong... sometimes hilariously so. I guess using the term BPA makes lay people feel like the draft less of a crapshoot, then okay.
