I think most Raptor fans are shell shocked by DeMar DeRozan who was an offense / no-defense type of player. But despite his playoff blunders, he was a reason why we got by some teams like Milwaukee before they got really good. Sub DeMar for Siakam in the bubble and we get by Boston. DeMar can at least get to the line even if a guy like Brown was guarding him.
The reason I'm aiming towards a high end 3&D type of player like Wagner and Moody is because I don't see that scoring threat outside the top 3 (Cade/Suggs/Green). Bouknight maybe but he has work to do. Who else in this draft can manufacture points when a team needs them badly? If nobody then go for the high end role player instead.

Sometimes there is just no stopping superstars from scoring, no matter how great D you play. Especially in winning time. That's when you need a cold blooded bucket-getter who can go toe-to-toe just to keep pace and give you a chance to win. Lou Will might be the worst defender in the NBA, but he did help the Clippers win a lot of close games. He did that for the Hawks vs. Knicks in game 1.

I would also stay the heck away from Davion but that's just me.

Partially yes, but also seriously not a fan of the no defence. We can't have any negative defenders. Plus Nurse literally outlined that defence is what he cares about and he will be playing a role in the draft process this year. So That is what makes me think people like Giddey is a NOPE... Any big they draft IF they draft a big will have to be SOLID. Hence why I think after mobley I don't see a big. Maybe Kai Jones, but I don't know. If no body then you go for someone like Springer who you can mold because he is 18.

At some point you have to select the best talent and be able to coach defense, and put players around that talent. It should be easier to coach defense than teaching a player how to score.... that's more of a natural gift.

The guy manufacturing points has to be a really, really good offensive player though. And that's my point with this draft. If guys like Bouknight or Mann can be elite offensively then we need to take them over guys that can play defense but aren't really great point producers (like Keon Johnson or Scottie Barnes) than it might be better to just stick with a high end role player like Moody or Wagner. Those guys are guaranteed to be good 3&D players in the NBA. They both have length, great form with quick releases on their shot. They play the game the right way basically.

I disagree with this. When you're in the lottery like the Raptors you always go with the high upside guy. The reason why guys like Kuminga and Keon and Barnes are ranked so high even though they're so raw - and none of them really can't shoot - is because of their potential. If Keon reaches his potential he has a chance to be an all star. If he doesn't reach his potential then he's a role player. So why draft a guy who's a sure fire role player over a guy who has a chance to be really really good?

The guys in the top 4-5 in most drafts are the typical studs.. guys in the 7-8-9 range aren't and you have to get lucky for them to turn into anything special.. and even then most of those guys drop to 10-15 (like Giannis and Kawhi). This draft is deep because there are a lot of guys that could turn into decent NBA careers.. but it doesn't seem to have a lot of star type of talent. Look at most drafts and you'll see the same trend. Like in 2015 where guys like Stanley, Mudiay, Winslow, and Hezonja (among others) went before Booker. Were they taken because of that "potential" tag too? If so, then it didn't really work out too well for the teams that drafted them.
If we get a top 4 no way do I want Moody or Wagner. But in the 7-8 range, I go for a safer pick. And if Barnes turns into a stud, well good for him and the team that took a chance on him. But I would still consider it a gamble.
I think this team takes the safe pick in the lottery and gambles in the second round. Just like they did in 2016 with Poeltl and then Siakam.

It's because of the potential bust situation. It's possible these guys flame out.. and just because we have a good track record doesn't mean they will all turn out. Stanley is still a bust. Alex Len wasn't that special in his limited time. Those guys were former lottery picks. And then we also had guys like Bembry, Ellenson, Bebe and Malachi Richardson (not lottery picks, but still former first round picks) that didn't really do anything.

Not saying we gotta pick the next bruno but again if Kuminga falls.. which is possible then I'd snap him up. If he doesn't fall then its a whole other thing.. Kai Jones has moved up for me.. Keon Johnson, Springer, are both there. I haven't determined an order yet. Moses I haven't seen enough. Wagner I am not sure of. Giddey scares me but I'd pick him. Barnes will be AMAZING defensively but ultimately I feel like he will be a potential dud on this specific team. This isn't the correct situation for him.
