If our core is Fred/Pascal/OG then we already have a star big in Pascal, a good PG and a 3&D specialist. Add a scorer at the wing and you're good to go.

We're going to have assets for a trade should a disgruntled star hit the market, but I'm hoping we can find that star in the draft. Guaranteed to be part of the team for a longer duration.

He's 18 and probably already as good as Boucher. Boucher is just in one of those hot streaks. He's going to fall back down to earth soon.
But anyway, if we're picking top 5, definitely NO to Mobley. Why? because he's a C. It's the least important position in basketball. Just sign someone like Theis or Drummond in free agency. There's a lot of elite wingers/PG's in this draft. Why draft a C?

For once I agree with Trex. You can create a championship team and get by with a C like Gasol, who was the 4th/5th option, played defense, stretched the floor. Wing players who can score the ball are pretty much necessary for a championship team.

Waiving or trading is not necessarily connected to him staying. If there are no palatable deals and Masai gifts him his freedom to chase a ring, then he probably wouldn’t be coming back to a team he feels can’t compete even if we traded him. If he asks out this year, then he’s probably out for good, is my guess.
What I do know for certain is that none of us forum posters can make statements like .... “definitelyâ€, when it comes knowing the intentions of players and what deals are actually being discussed.

Exactly. If they waive or trade him there is a negligible chance he returns to the team (which is about as definitely as things get in the real world). If they do not do either, there is a very real chance they re-sign him. Was my point.
Might be hard to pull it off given Lowry's nature. But that chance exists and might be more than negligible.
However this team wants to win not lose.. so trading or waiving Lowry was never going to happen.

I mean we could have a wink-wink deal since we have cap space. Could trade/waive him to the team of his choice.. then bring him back on a long term deal to retire as a Raptor in the off season.

When the Heat were rebuilding after Lebron left, Pat Riley was pretty cold-hearted and let the GHOAT, (Greatest Heat Of All Time), D-Wade go chase money and rings with other teams before bringing him back with open arms. IIRC, money was the main reason why Wade went to the Bulls, although it was also spun as Wade "going home".
You would think there'd be hard feelings and a big hit to the reputation of the Heat's vaunted culture, the way they treated Wade, but nobody even talks or cares about what happened. Wade got his farewell tour with and lived happily ever after.

A good reason to get more draft picks.

Over the past ten years, the Toronto Raptors have been the best drafting team by a wide margin. This has contributed to seven straight post-season appearances, capped with an NBA Championship in 2019.

drive, passion and intensity like KG is hard to find. I don't think Mobley has that in him
(not making player comparisons, just arguing that if a big man prospect is great enough you take them, but you do have to be careful - Marcus Camby shouldn't go number 2 in the modern era)Last edited by SkywalkerAC; Tue Jan 19, 2021, 02:50 PM.
