I agree but those guys (except Freddy I think) had the benefit of playing in the G League as well. For whatever reason, Davis was never sent there and then the opportunity was lost once the pandemic started. I gotta say though, and I was one of the biggest Davis supporters last year, his personality just doesn't strike me as a Raptors type of player. Then there is the bonehead plays. It's like Stephen Jackson on the Spurs...just doesn't look like he fits. I'm hoping Flynn's time in G League starts to pay off with Nurse.
Davis is a guy who can carry a 25% usage at above average efficiency. Those guys are rare and more worth developing than 3&D reclamation scrubs, IMO. Davis is no Stephen Jackson, c'mon. He's just inexperienced. I don't mind the errors of aggression, because we're treadmilling and rebuilding this year anyway. Perfect year to invest in development of scoring talent. And even with all of Davis' bone-headed plays, it feels like more of an optics and timing thing, because he always has a positive net rating.

Stackhouse was criminally underrated as a coach. The guy gets zero credit when we talk about developing all our young guys who came through the 905. He even got Bruno to G-League playoff MVP and helped him stick in the league as a Grizzlies assistant coach. That's a minor miracle.

Are we a surefire playoff team, though? Hawks were missing arguably their second best player (Deandre Hunter) and their top bench scorer (Bogdanovich) and they would have blown us out if not for Boucher having a career game. This year is looking a lot like the classic 7-11 treadmill (or maybe 5-13 in this weird season) and a first round exit ceiling ..... aka No Man's Land.
It's very much like the Sink or Swim situation that Masai set up before the turnaround. If we really start to sink, he can tie on some weights to speed our descent. But if we continue figuring out how to swim, adding those same weights on put us squarely into No Man's Land.
A lot comes down to this next 6 weeks. If we're really stinking up the joint with sub-mediocrity, then yeah - get out the Concrete-shoe Mold. But if we're in 6th...

Unless things turn very bad for this team (always a possibility with a string of injuries and bad luck), yes, we look too good to miss the playoffs. And unless things go very bad AND management piles on with a series of tanking moves, we are too good to sniff the top 10.

Do we beat Brooklyn if Durant isn't pulled from the game? Do we beat Charlotte and Dallas if they aren't on brutal 3 games in 4 nights, back-to-back on the road, missing top players? We've had great schedule luck and have been unscathed by Covid.

We've had OG missing for like 2 weeks now, Kyle missed games, Pascal missed a few. Shit happens to everyone, hypotheticals doesn't change that.
You can just tell we're going to be a "competitive" team this year, that's what I'm seeing on the court at least. And a lot of that competitiveness is coming with youth and depth - so tanking isn't something that can come with just resting Lowry and other top guys, or just by trading him.Last edited by SkywalkerAC; Mon Feb 8, 2021, 11:39 PM.

Yup, fact of the matter is we're neck and neck with Pacers for point differential. Maybe even passed them here with this win against Memphis - a professional win without Lowry.

Overall Im not for trading talent to tank, but if the value in trades is there, specifically for Norm and Lowry, im pretty indifferent. Its just a great opportunity to add blue chip talent to the core, likely the last one anytime soon.

Yeah Id agree that tanking to ve actually a bottom 3-5 team is really unlikely, but when you look into it the teams with the best difference between expected selection and spot in the standings are the teams 6&7 who just miss the plyin games - we could get there. Still pretty competetive with an outside shot at either the number 1 pick or making the playoffs if you are a team in that range. I suspect trading Lowry and Powell would put us in that range, depending on injuries, who we bring in, etc. Im only for that if the Norm + Lowry trades net multiple first round picks and or a couple decent prospects with limited long term money. Downside isnt great on that pick, but youve got a pretty good chance at moving up, and if you add an extra pick or two you instantly add a ton of young talent. That being said, its not really a Raptors move and I really like the idea of keeping Lowry.

This team wins a lot without Lowry, actually. Dumping him and transforming into a lottery team is a pipe dream. After a relatively brief rough start, this team has been about what was expected for this year - can the panic end now?
One of the only interesting quirks so far is their offence has been better than their defence. Top 10 ORTG right now, middle of the pack DRTG, slowly climbing in net rtg, into the top third now.
Other quirk that may continue to affect the season is playing in Tampa. Normally near the top of the league as a home team, they're just 6-5 in Tampa.Last edited by S.R.; Wed Feb 10, 2021, 11:42 AM."We're playing in a building." -- Kawhi Leonard

All depends on whats available in trades - Id be trading more for the return than tanking our own pick. No problem with winning after making those trades if you can get a couple picks and a prospect.
