Both these Illionois guys who are supposed to be top 40 picks didnt look very good today. The guard turned it over a bunch of time some in big possesion and the Big guy got out placed by some unathletic farm boy

Ya he put up the best numbers but lost his matchup and that was the key to the game. Loyola just attacked him in the PNR and he really didny know what to do. Kinda looked like JV was to slow footed and got caught not defender the ball handler and giving enough space for the roll man to catch lobs and passes. Tough to get outplayed by an unathletic guy when your a big slow footed C and going to have to guard the quick uber athletic 5s that are the main Bigs in the NBA now

I don't think he's particularly slow footed, but I have seen him be too aggressive defensively, so that he bites too much on post moves. We'll see, a lot of draft boards don't even have him going in the 2nd round. He's raw but I think he's got good upside and would love to see a big man coach work with him. The things he's doing wrong seem relatively easy to fix. The other mistake he makes, which a lot of young bigs do, is he brings the ball down so opposing guards can get a hand in on the ball, need to tuck the ball between chest, shoulder and jaw when turning / pivoting, then explode up. He'd be a project, but worth taking a flyer on I think.
Surprised this thread isn't on fire. Looking good for the top 10 now.
I think we're still in shock we didn't have to trade for a lotto pick but stumbled into it ourselves. The last 2 days is really what changed everything. If Raptors win those 2 winnable games they're a half game back of that play in thing and most people are assuming they'll get in no problem. We all assumed they would at least win ONE of them.

One of the best things to happen this year would be stumbling into a high lotto pick. The universe could at least give us that.
Well you know the NBA will award Houston the top pick for the James Harden fiasco. But they owe us a top 4 pick for Kawhi and that this organization has been competent enough to not need bailing out like the Cavs, Pellies, Wolves and now Houston.
Maybe the universe also moves us up the draft to compensate for us being the only team that had to setup shop somewhere else.
Fingers Crossed.
A top 5 pick in this draft could be a game changer.
Hopefully if we move some players at the deadline, we can stockpile a pick or two more in this years draft. Potentially package them together and move up to grab the player we want.
Of course, if Kyle doesn't want to be traded, then I don't think he should be traded against his will. That's not the way to treat the greatest Raptor. But I hope he'll be open to a trade and I hope he'll be traded.
I disagree. You are asking toronto to NOT trade Derozan for Kawhi with that way of thinking. It's business, period, your job is to maximize on inventory and if you can trade the shadow of Kyle Lowry for really nice return....you do it in a heart beat. You let Baynes and whoever else sucks play, you let games get away playing them while you keep young bigs healthy. And you game a retool.
Toronto is not swinging up brother, its over. It's time to look forward and make another run.

There are intangibles to consider, like "does your front office respect players' wishes." It's not for nothing that the Kyle trade process is basically Kyle deciding, right now, where he wants to finish his career - here, Philly or Miami - and that Masai and Bobby are letting him decide that for himself and then executing the trade if necessary. This isn't comparable to DeMar, because Kyle brought us a championship and has mentored the next generation of players and if he wants to become an assistant coach with us when he retires then the team will probably hire him to do that too.
More to the point, the return from either Philly or Miami isn't so great that they're auto-deals. Philly probably gives you a late first-rounder this year and one of Matthias Thybulle or Dwane Maxey, plus salary filler. Miami can't offer good draft picks at all, so they give you Precious Achunwa, one of Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson, and salary filler. Maybe you can move the salary filler for more assets in either case, but in neither case are these huge deals you can't turn down; if Lowry wants to go then they're adequate, but if he doesn't it's not so good that you need to overrule him.
7th from the bottom and looking good.
We can easily make it to the bottom 5 too.
This draft is loaded. Perfect time to suck.
This is our Mavs/Spurs year. Injuries/Covid gave us the opportunity for a top 5 lotto pick and we end up with a generational talent to build around for years to come, music to my ears.
