Moody's a guy I haven't seen enough of, definitely on my list of guys to look really closely at soon.

What’s intriguing to me is that he can score at all three levels (I think, I’ll explain further). He’s a fantastic shooter either catching and shooting or out of the triple threat position which makes him versatile in terms of the role he can play offensively. He’s a really solid mid range shooter and can get it off whenever he wants because of his solid footwork and balance (he’s always on balance) and his freakishly long arms. What’s really incredible is that he gets to the line a lot for a guy who can’t really finish inside effectively. This is either cause for concern or reason to be excited about his prospects as getting to the line is a sure fire skill set of an NBA scorer.
Defensively, he will thrive in the NBA more so than he did in college. His close outs are consistently brilliant and his intelligence stands out to me a lot. Positionally I’d like to see him as a big 2 but he can play the 3 and probably even the 4 in spurts. I’d say his comp is Middleton mixed with Booker with the potential to be Klay-like off the ball. This is all contingent on his shot improving a bit and whether he can learn to be more assertive because he does seem somewhat passive at times. To me though, because of his age and general ability to score fluidly, he projects to have a really high floor.
Also, my comps are always gonna be ceiling comps because it’s never fun to say a guy is gonna be Doug McDermot.
We will need another ball handler out there for us next season if Lowry is gone. Even if he isn't gone the writing is on the wall.
Also in the event of a Lowry sign and trade we likely get a couple of young players and then then we have like 3 picks in the draft. Not sure what we do with that many young players, but we'd be prime to convert those quarters into dollars.

Maybe it sounds like I'm down on Moody and I guess I am a bit, but one of the things that stands out to me when I watch tape on him is that he plays at such a casual pace. To me that just seems like the trait of a low motor and low motivated player. That's why I like guys like guys like Mitchell, Bouknight, or Barnes even because they generally are the guys pushing the pace with the ball in their hands. Moody at this stage seems like the type that needs someone to create scoring opportunities for him. To me he mimicks what Trent Jr. already does for this team minus the growing pains.

Yeah, we were spoiled by having 4 playmakers (Lowry, Gasol, Pascal & FVV) in the starting lineup. Now it looks like it will just be Pascal and FVV, who are both limited as playmakers. If Lowry leaves, Nurse will start Malachi with FVV and make a small starting backcourt even smaller.

Isn’t the majority position that his 3-ball doesn’t look broken per se, just that it needs a lot of work? Like, it’s not broken like Michael Kidd Gilchrist’s shot.

Shooting is the issue I have with Mitchell too. He was great last season.. but still only shot around 65% from the free throw line.. and he's a point guard. You can't play in today's NBA without having the ability to space the floor. And that's for any position in the NBA.
Gobert, being a dominant defender, is the only guy I think that can succeed without a shot. Maybe Ben Simmons, but even he gets a lot of flack.

The Great One wrote: View PostJames Bouknight has jumped all the way up on my rankings. He's now up there with Keon at 6. Bouknight can shoot and he can create his own shot. He's a pure scorer. We don't have that type of player. He is EXACTLY what this team needs.

In a league where Jose Calderone once dropped 87 straight free throws, and 151 out of 154 (2008-2009 season, (I remember the streak well, it seemed like he was never going to miss), there's no excuse for a professional NBA player to shoot less than 75% no matter what other skills you have. Hack a Shaq should never have been a thing
