No front office is passing on Cade to get anyone else. If a front office really wants to make that choice they'll trade down.

I’ll also wait to debate who to take in the top 4 until after the lottery.
I’m not suggesting you take Mobley over Cade, but those of you knocking Mobley need to watch some of his games. The kid will take time to develop, but he’s legit.
I’ve been most impressed with Suggs, but I still have to do a deep dive on Cade.

I agree, save the top 4 talk for if we land there.
You never know how a draft class will turn out but I'm liking what I see from the consensus 6-12 range guys. Lots of defense focused players, and great length. There's like 3 guys that are the same height as Siakam, and have similar athleticism and motor available where we are drafting! Raps have a really good opportunity to improve on an already great defense.
Or they can go a completely different direction and pick up a guy like Bouknight, adding a player that can create his own offense. Maybe he turns into something special that can be that missing piece we so badly need. I'm excited either way!

Working my way through scouting reports and video. I think right now:
If we jump into top 4:
Cade
Mobley
Suggs
Green
If we stick at 7-9:
Keon
Barnes
Moody
Ziaire Williams (real swing there)

not a fan of kuminga?? also I agree with you on KJ. i think today I need to check out Kai Jones.
Kai Jones is interesting but I hesitate to target an energy type big, even with good defensive upside, with a top 10 pick. I think I like the wings and guards available in that range more in terms of upside to be real difference makers.

I really hope we draft a legit offensive talent, and learn how to develop & incorporate that type of player into our team concept. I mean, Harden and Kyrie will never be confused with DPOY candidates, or even 2-way players, and they aren't hurting the Nets.

It's a lot easier to find offensively challenged, defense-first guys (e.g. Stanley, Bembry, RHJ, MKG, ....) than to acquire natural bucket getters... which is what we really need. If we can't take a highly-skilled offensive talent, bring them into our system at an early age, and teach them how to play passable team defense; then you really have to question whether we have a strong culture or not.

Can we finally bring in a truly gifted offensive player and teach him passable D?

Kuminga is the sort of guy I wouldn't advocate for, but would also not be mad if Masai/Bobby took a swing on him, assuming he slipped from 5. I would not want him in the top 4 (though again, the Masai factor would soothe a lot assuming Cade and Mobley are gone).

That said, to get a way with not playing defence you have to essentially be harden level.... and that is a big ask ....

I think what you look for is someone who is offensively at least OK... with the potential to be great... but they can't be a minus defender they need to at least be average. Harden and Kyrie are very unique on that team because that team is just so offensively gifted that they can get away without having to play defence at all. That is nutty. I think they struggle though in the next two rounds against the Bucks and against the sixers. We will see. Again sixers should have got lowry for sure but we will see how that works out. I don't think the Nets win this year... these super teams always struggle in their first year.

He is not always engaged on defense … He should raise his intensity on the defensive end … Doesn’t keep a low stance all the time when he is guarding a ball handler , which makes it easier for his opponent to blow by him … It’s a question mark who he could guard at the next level, since he has problems against smaller, quicker opponents, but also against athletic wings … Not always physical enough when he is defending in the post … Has problems reading screens on the defensive end … Has been targetted on defense on Pick and Roll situations that force switches to exploit his defensive limitations … Must be more aggressive on defensive close outs …
