Sigh. It would be a great cosmic joke if after all the Leiweke/Ujiri hype we ended up with a logo that looks like everybody else's, a Drake jersey, and a treadmill team. Where's the whiskey.

Slate had a good article about the overuse of the basketball in NBA logos:

It is as if a refrigerator manufacturer decided to use a picture of a fridge as its logo; it’s hard to imagine a less evocative, less distinctive, or more boring visual symbol.

Definitely thought you meant toronto's

Many have asked -- It was confirmed to me earlier that the #NBA indeed has a rule stating at least one team logo must include a basketball
— Chris Creamer (@sportslogosnet) May 12, 2015
That logo doesn't necessarily need to be the primary logo, which explains teams such as the Grizzlies, Rockets
— Chris Creamer (@sportslogosnet) May 12, 2015
There is also a rule that the primary team logo must include both city name and team nickname, hence the wedging in on Brooklyn, etc. #NBA
— Chris Creamer (@sportslogosnet) May 12, 2015
Which explains it --> Forcing a full team name and a basketball; easy to just add a roundel around the "actual" team logo #NBA
