Well obviously they wouldn't have an actual deflated basketball as their logo, although honestly, if they did that might be one of the funniest to happen in the history of the world, lol.

I'm complaining about the subconscious implications of this logo. Name me one other logo in sports that features the equipment of that sport being tarnished.

My guess would be that there are a bunch of high-ranking decision makers in the organization who have no taste, and they veto anything cool.

But this is classic design firm shit. They do research and testing on what works (the colour black, simple designs), look at what sells the best now (Nets, Yankees, etc.) and copy it while making minimal changes to not completely infringe on copyrights.

This is the Grizzlies logo to the Hornets logo.
The Yahoo logo to Google.
The Windows logo to Mac

Wow buddy, look at the difference in the comparison logo to the flag logo, no circle. Also the high contrast black and white with the circle was a way to mock the nets.. Not the overall logo change.

- Without the circle it's less of a Brooklyn ripoff too.
- The grey ball in a red circle that's apparently the real combo just doesn't work. It makes no sense to have the focus of your logo be 50% grey on a black background. That's design 101.
- I don't like the grey at all.
- The circular wordmark and font is excellent.
- There's something about the way the clawmarks follow the curve of the stitches [what do you even call those on a basketball?] that looks off to me.
- I'm a sucker for monchrome logos, but I guess if anything should be red it'd be the ball.
- I really like the ball logo just plain on white.
