This is one of those one step forward one step back scenarios. You beef up the pf position but mess up the sf position. I would only trade ross if for certain I have a player that can take over with minimal loss. Kinda how when gay was traded, ross was in waiting.
Ultimately I think it is easier to find a SF that can replace Ross then it is finding a top 30 starting-caliber PF in Horford. Even though it hurts their depth I'd still make a trade using Ross as my chip to get Horford.

So ATL would still need to clear cap room to sign him in the offseason, and would only be able to offer 4 years like everyone else. In all likelihood, they may be trading for a one year rental if they target Monroe.

For instance, in your laundry list of "things you can't have too much of", none of them could in any way be insulting or insensitive (and all easily accepted as accurate). You could have chosen any number of different metaphors to illustrate...yet you still pushed the beer comparison (which I simply pointed out might not be great, and is also false). And again, seemingly with the desire to prove you're right and there's nothing wrong at all with what you're saying just kept trying to justify it, when you could've just been like "joking around, don't worry about it". I don't know why. You seem to want to go out of your way to prove that you have a right to be an asshole. And you do. That doesn't mean you're not an asshole. And I'm well within my right to point it out. Asshole.
Love your backpedaling and your close by calling me names. Whats next champ .. Nah Nah de Boo Boo ?
Perhaps you should change your name to something else as its utterly demeaning and insensitive to all the white men who can jump.

How about these then ...
You can't have too much money..
Too hot a girlfriend...
Too nice a car....
Too many friends...
Too much pitching ...
Too many quality defensemen..
and you definitely cannot have too much beer :-)Last edited by white men can't jump; Sun Oct 19, 2014, 09:53 PM.

He never mentioned drinking beer lmao.
Technically you can never have(own) too much beer, since you could sell it at a discount and make lots of money.
White Men Can't Jump just take your L, it wasn't an offensive comparison and you overreacted. Like it was pointed out above, you didn't even mention the raped in the ass comment and it was the same basis. I don't take offense to either but I'm saying if you take offense to one, be consistent.
Also, the Spurs comment by Leo is not true. Too much depth is not an issue if you're getting to the finals two years in a row. It's the reason Ray Allen was okay with coming off the bench in Miami. Wins=Player Morale. So you need to have a nice balance of Wins-Depth, if it sways too far towards depth and not enough wins, you'll have problems.

See, I can at least appreciate your using rational thought to counter me. Something he didn't really give a shot. *And just for fun, you could still have too much beer. If you're unable to sell it you're taking a loss, since it's not free to begin with, which you could argue means you have too much (unless of course you have no problem absorbing that loss).Last edited by white men can't jump; Sun Oct 19, 2014, 11:40 PM.

Damn, as mentioned "too much beer" does not translate to drunk driving and liver damage. It wouldn't be difficult to translate it to numerous examples of POSSESSION (as in "have") of beer, which is the analogy appropriate to DEPTH on the team. It's a stockpile, as in you don't play your depth all at once, but you have it in reserve, and will eventually want/need it. I never get drunk on the shit, and I know many like me, but I can never have too much in stock, as there's nothing better to have on a hot summer evening when a few neighbours come over to sit on the deck and sip a few.
Ridiculous sermonizing, especially from someone who overlooks rape as an analogy. What, rape isn't damaging or serious enough? Or is it all based on the poster that submits it? Just wondering, because based on this exchange, the "asshole" name calling was misdirected, imo.

I'll get us back on track. We can only call ourselves "deep" if our bench actually produces, which I think it will. But we have to see if certain line ups work well against other NBA teams in actual games. Names are only names, some players will play at the same level as last year, some may get better and some may get worse.
As for if you can have too much depth, I don't think so (our back up center position is pretty mediocre right now anyway). The worst thing that can happen is to misuse line ups and certain match ups. For example you still need to balance out defense and offense. Probably can't have to many minutes of a Lowry, GV, Lou lineup.
