His defense, shot selection and consistency were all in question coming into this season. What's everyone's thoughts on that through 17 games? Is that contract an overpay now considering his age, and improvement trajectory?
Underpay. His defense took a pretty big jump and he is becoming a reliable shot creator. This is what the Raptors got him to do when he came here last season but with the mess that was the Tampa season, he just didn't get comfortable. He is doing the same things now and has gotten a lot better and a lot more comfortable doing it.

Same thoughts I had at the start of this thread. People need to realize that he has improved each season. Like leaps and bounds. This season he’s cleaned up some of his defensive techniques. Glad he re-signed and don’t care about the money cause it has zero
      imoact on the roster.

        • Trent is very underrated. Guy is a fearless bucket-getter, can score from multiple areas of the floor, both off-the-dribble and spot-up, and way, way better on defence than he's given credit for (not just steal and deflections, hardly ever gets blown by 1-on-1). Finally addressed our limited wingspan in the backcourt. Shooting 37% from 3, 90% from the line and the 2nd highest eFG% among the starters, now also in the DPOY conversation.

            Fixed it for you.

Portland fans hated to see him go and this is why.

Not sure why Blazer fans would think that way, because Powell is outperforming Trent this year in almost every offensive category.

Maybe it's because Norm is in his prime at 28, and Gary is just scratching the surface of his potential at 23, and putting up numbers on offense which are pretty darn close. And then there's defense where Gary has already been talked about as a potential DPOY candidate, again at age 23. Or maybe it's because Gary has already shown more consistency as a starter than Norm did for maybe his entire tenure with the Raps. Gotta wonder what type of numbers Gary will be putting up after 5 years of development and he's in his prime. There's a real chance of him developing into an All Star which nobody would confuse Norm with. So yeah, no idea why Blazers fans would be upset

Blazers fans love Powell, they basically think he's better than cj in every way and deserves more usage. Trades don't always need a winner and a loser. In fact they really shouldn't if done correctly.

Lillard is 31 already. Blazers are in win-yesterday mode. Powell is perfect for them and Gary makes sense for us.

And Powell was incredibly consistent "as a starter" with the Raps. It was with the bench where he struggled with consistency.... just like Fred did during the championship season.

Not sure why the Blazers and Sixers haven't ironed out the details of a Simmons for McCollum swap yet. It instantly puts both teams up a tier in their respective conference, imo

My guess is because Morey thinks Simmons is Steph Curry

I get that Blazers need to win now, but Gary is giving you pretty much what Norm does, is a better defender and 5 years younger. We're winning that trade right now, and in 5 years my guess is the word "fleeced" might be attached to this trade.

I don't follow the Blazers much, but CJ seems like he's been the best player on the team so far this season. Not sure why their fans aren't higher on him

I think they love CJ in a vacuum. But, they don't love the CJ AND Dame backcourt. They've seen its ceiling, and are moving further away from it. Especially couple with the fact that they now have Powell as well who is scoring way more efficiently in every way and could probably easily average the same points per game if we was taking 18 shots a night.

                                A lineup of

                                Lillard
                                Simmons
                                Powell
                                Covington
                                Nurkic

Could be truly terrifying at its peak. Simmons surrounded by big moment shooters, Lillard surrounded by A1 defenders.
