Who have we ever acquired in the buyout market? We've never been players... don't expect anything to happen. I say this only to relieve your grief when it doesn't happen.

Jeremy Lin, I remember Raptor fans were praying we get him, turns out he sucked.

buyout market is overrated just stand pat and ride it out. We'll get a lotto pick and next year we'll have a solid rook and some room to sign a big. Make a run in the playoffs while developing the young guys, win-win situation.

So tell me why Dieng chooses the Spurs over us?
                  We suck as a destination.

If you can't sign FA and buyouts don't want to come here and even disgruntled trades don't want to come here without duress, you're left with drafting and trying to hang onto them as they develop. Kawhi was a one off everything fell into place scenario that may not be repeated for decades. Chip didn't help, Masai didn't help, we need to become the destination for all non-US athletes to even have a chance

Dieng chose the Spurs over us, Knicks, Suns, Clippers, Sixers, Heat and Nets reportedly lol. Why? The reasons are up to him.

People are acting like Dieng is Hakeem Olajuwon. Is Dieng an upgrade over Baynes? yes. But that's not really saying much. He's horrible as well.

The only C that intrigues me other than Drummond is Olynyk but i'm not sure if the Rockets would buy him out.

Fair enough. Overall point still stands; we need to somehow correct the foreign country backwater destination idea

I think fans care more about this than players or our front office does.

80% of the NBA teams aren't big time FA destinations. Only few that realistically are are the LA teams because its LA, Miami (Lebron, Wade and Bosh made them popular), Boston, Nets and Knicks because its NY, although Knicks have sucked for a long time and no wanted to play there as a result. Most players (especially buyouts) go where they have a best chance at winning a title or want to play with other stars.

Kawhi leaving was an exception to the rule because everyone knew he wanted to be in LA even before we traded for him.

You also need cap space to sign stars, which the Raptors haven't had in a long time. Whatever small cap space we've had over the years were used to sign mediocre players.

And you're basing this thesis on...not getting a player we probably even try for?

That won't happen. And a lot of teams suffer from that. That's why we've been telling people tanking and drafting is the only way.

Maybe we’re making this more complicated than it seems. Dieng just chose a team in 7th place likely in the playoffs instead of a team that is in 11th (having just helped end the Rockets 20 game losing streak) and just trying to get the play in game.

I had the same thought at first too but I think this makes more sense. Sure, we know the Raps are a sleeping giant who are going to tear through the east but that’s our little secret.
