There are some really crappy teams in this league. Every year half the league is crap...funny how the league stays afloat on the backs of 3-4 great teams and a dozen superstars every year.

      • Bulls up 17 on the Nets. Still lots of time left. But a team to watch for sure as we're chasing them (for either the tank or the playoffs - choose your adventure).

But the NBA is doing great! Everything is fine.
Depends on how an individual (i.e. Adam Silver, owners, players, etc...) defines "great"....

According to a CNBC report, the next NBA TV rights contract could be triple in value, netting the league over $7 billion annually, up substantially from the current $2.6 billion-per-year deal that started in 2016

Remember how Pops started this whole thing by giving his 30-something year old stars a couple rest games down the stretch? Was moderately controversial at the time. Seems quaint now, a third of the league shuts it down with a third of the season left with the aim of being as bad as possible over that span - Pops was at least gearing up for playoff runs.

The buyout market this year is a joke. From the perspective of NBA basketball as an entertainment product, this has gotten pretty bad. And even easier to do with no fans in the stands, no one's worried about gate revenue taking a hit.

Jalen rose had a very simple, effective idea re: buyout market. Make the buyout deadline the same day as the trade deadline. It wouldn't fix everything but its BS that all the mid market teams have to get their ducks in order and finalize their roster, and then the week after the 3 best super teams come and scoop up the leftovers and a small fraction of their original salary.

great for the player, great for the super team, awful for the underdogs and the competitive integrity.

As usual, the NBA doesn't care what's fair or shows integrity. They care about large markets, super teams and TV ratings. I don't know why about 1/3 of the teams have any fans or ratings whatsoever unless you're just watching to see stars on other teams....

Ever since bird and magic saved the league, and then MJ surged it into a global phenomenon, they consciously decided to market the player over the team. They really dont care a lot about gate and concession sales in Charlotte or sacramento, they care about big weekly matchups, playoffs, Jersey sales in China etc

and unfortunately for the small market fan, it works. Everybody at the company known as the NBA is getting rich.

ha I guess Black Lives Matter didn't affect viewership negatively after all.

Trump, of all people, should have understood this concept:

The people that threatened to boycott never watched anyways, they were watching nascar and wrestling and ice road truckers

Its just the internet being the internet. A small group of people who actually watch the NBA talked about boycotting and people who don't watch basketball just piled on.

                              • ESPN/TNT/FOX Sports/etc need content. NBA is content.. 82 games a year + playoffs + preseason. I mean we can all hate on Silver, but he knows how to make his owners lots and lots and lots of $$$.
