I like Moses Brown, fits with what we're doing here. If you're Dallas receiving Dragic on a deal, you now have listed as point guards:

    Doncic
    Dragic
    Trey Burke
    Jalen Brunson
    Tyrell Terry

Some of these guys can play other positions but that's 5 point guard specialists on a roster of ~15 (meaning about 1/3 of your roster would be point guards). I get that Dallas likes all of these guys, but they would probably send one out if they're getting Dragic (likely Brunson or Burke).

So the deal would then be Dragic for Brown, Brunson and Powell (ballast). That's a net of 2 players to our roster. We have 3 spots left, so if that happened (3 incoming players from Dallas), the last spot would likely be Yuta's.
Or could we also send Yuta with Dragic to Dallas, Yuta's contract is 1.2ish mil easy to bundle, that way we don't have to cut any players, as much as we love Yuta, I also don't want to see we cut Wainright, simply based on roster spots and saturated in one position

I mentioned Redick as salary ballast. Of course it's up to him, but we could just buy him out and he could then go where he wants anyway. Powell's contract is fully guaranteed for over $11M next year. We don't need Powell either, but Redick's new contract can make things just so much more flexible for both Toronto and Dallas.

      [...]

The Raptors just buy him out.. maybe save a little more cap space as he heads to Brooklyn/LA/etc.

      Dallas gets Dragic
Raptors get Brown, Green and a TPE (about $3.9M).
Redick gets $10.9M and a buyout and can choose where he wants to go, but got paid handsomely for it.
Oh yeah if he's just ballast to facilitate the trade and then move on, yeah I can see that being an option. Another team to watch fo here is New Orleans.

They're the opposite of Dallas when it comes to PG availability . Dallas has 4 and Nola now has only 1 (Kira Lewis). They're actually in much greater need to sign a veteran PG like Dragic than Dallas is. Problem is they have no movable deals of the right size to make something work.

Another interesting tidbit on Nola is they offered Josh Hart (RFA) 5M as the "QO" and no one is outbidding. Similar to the Bulls who extended a QO of 9M to Markkanen and appears will retain him for that. That's ~14M of combined salary that in a hypothetical world would have more on-court future value to a rebuilding team like us than Dragic's 19M.

        I like Wainright's game too.

A good ending fo me would be Dragic & Boucher going to Dallas for 2 of their PG's and 2 Centres (one of whom Moses Brown)

Flip one PG to Nola for Josh Hart (Nola only has 1 PG in their roster as it is), then the other PG & Centre to the Bulls for Markannen. Keep Moses Brown.

That's 2 players out (Dragic & Boucher), 3 players in (Moses Brown, Josh Hart and Markkanen). That would leave two spots at the end of the roster for Yuta and Wainwright

3 spots for 5 guys. Yuta, Dekker, Freddie, Bonga, Wainright. I feel like Yuta already has a spot locked up so whatever. Wainright to me should be a lock. He's tough and he's a good defender. He reminds me a bit of Tucker. As for the last spot? I want Dekker on the team. We need shooting BADLY. Dekker shot 45% from 3 last year,
Wainwright is playing tough in summer league. Recency bias is strong here though.

Bonga dropped 17 on the Tampa Raptors last season and has dropped 30 before in the G-league + he's 23.

I think it is Bonga who is the lock. Yuta vs Wainwright vs Dekker. & it would be sick if they bring in Hartenstein to compete with Gillespie.

            He's actually 21.

            • Redick as a SnT was actually the construct I originally proposed in my first Lowry possibility trade piece as salary ballast from DAL.

I suspect if they were going to do it, it would be just him and Brown, and he'd make enough (14.44M) on his own to match, so they wouldn't have to wait for Brown. But in that case, it would be done already. The only reason for the deal not to happen now is if they are waiting to use Brown, so I think it will be Powell, Burke and Brown on October 1st (or Powell, Green and Brown if Masai is winning the trade handily), or we'll wait for the deadline.

              • I don’t get bringing in Powell on his decent-sized deal when we have Birch and Precious. Barring injuries, would he even play much at all?

Powell is the ballast. Have to bring a good chunk of salary in to make the trade allowable.

                  • Well yeah I get that, I’d just rather have Dragic than him giving how our roster looks right now. Outside of Dragic we only have three guards that aren’t low-profile rookies

That's true, Dragic is a valuable player. The prize here would be the 2 other young prospects that would come along. The idea here is that we're rebuilding and looking to flip older vets that won't see a contending window here into younger guys that can grow together, and to whom we can add value from within over the next 2-3 years. That was the premise on the Norm-Trent trade as well

If Dragic goes and we somehow end up with Brown and Green, that's a net of 3 young prospects for Lowry (Green, Brown and Achiuwa).

Yeah, the point is the prospect (or if Masai really impressed, two prospects) you add in the deal. Powell might even get flipped. They could just keep flipping guys for less salary and a fringe prospect or 2nd round pick until they have cut lots of salary.

                        • You can carry 17 players now, not 15. That started with Covid and is still in effect. I don't think we need to drop anyone remotely important.

You can carry 20 players plus 2 two ways in the offseason.

You can carry 15 players plus 2 two ways in the regular season.

The only thing that changed with COVID is they increased how much two-way players can be on the team and how much compensation they can get.

                                3. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjdamyyx (this is showing failed because the QO's of Hart (~6M) and Markannen (~9M) are not there yet, but if they were this trade would be successful)
