I knew he had an ego before, but I was okay with trying to get him and help him improve. Today's reports made me realize I'd rather stay as far away from him as possible.

he is a clutch client and wants to be in LA
If he just wants to be in California GSW could put together a package perhaps, Sacramento as well, but the LA teams have nothing of value other than their superstars.

Too bad there is zero possibility of a trade to an LA team unless Lebron, Davis, Kawhi, or PG are going the other way.

There is zero reason to buy Dragic out. None. Zip. Nada. Makes no fucking sense at all. Gives us no cap space, no advantage, just a huge waste of money. You keep him and play him because he's still a good vet guard and he will have trade value at the deadline, even if it's just to get a 2nd round pick. He's also the perfect large salary contract to bring back a player that moves the needle. Without one of those you have to send out guys you actually wanna keep.
If we waive him, his money stays on the books. But if he gives back some money, that money comes off the cap too. Meaning if he was super desperate to leave and gave it all back, he'd be cleared entirely. In that sort of scenario we could have a solid chunk of cap room.
But it is very unlikely he would give much back. Even giving back 5-10M would be unheard of in terms of percent of the contract value.

We'll see what happens. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if we bought him out. We would basically be doing him, his agent, and the team he goes to a giant favour.
If we had cap space we'd use most of it on Birch. If we operate above the cap we'd use our MLE on him. I don't think there is a free agent out there that we have to make a play on. Markkanen is the big name everyone mentions.. but he doesn't feel like a Raptor type of player. And I doubt we have interest in guys like Schroeder or Hart. Who else is left?
Keeping him until the deadline won't matter. No team is going to trade for a $19M expiring contract that is 35 years old. Not one where they would have to give back a core piece to make it work (unless a team is trying to duck the tax). And if he remains on the roster, he's taking minutes away from Flynn and Trent. Two guys we kind of want to develop.
Personally I would love for them to either keep him or make a good trade for him. It's basically been 3 days now since free agency started.. and we are still holding on to Dragic's contract. It doesn't look good from where I'm sitting.

The only window for Simmons to the Raps was for Lowry anyway. They were never going to consider giving up a piece of the core for him. He's not worth our attention anymore.

GSW isn't going to ruin their culture for this guy.

I mean he isn't going to get what he wants.... but yeah.....I agree GSW and SacTown make sense. It is likely Sactown.

I think Sacramento would actually be perfect. Nobody cares about the Kings so Simmons can just not worry about shooting down there and still go to the beach.
Philly can get a package of guys that can help them. Hield/Haliburton/Barnes. Heck even Mitchell would all be guys that could help them win a chip. And the Kings might just give Morey what he wants.

How would he handle going to GSW and being the #4 guy? How would that work? Kerr and Curry and Green will go out of their way to help him to a point but they aren't going to cater to this guy - they're trying to win titles not babysit Simmons. You think Lebron and Leonard are going to put up with any shit from him? He'll be told to get in line and do what he's told from day one.
Apparently Draymond and Dame became besties in Tokyo.
