I expect better results than 7th tbh. Im sure Im a homer, but we have an immediately pretty good team. The discussion has been worn out at this point, but I subscribe to the notion the core was good last year, we just had no depth, god awful centers, bad luck and tanked it out at the end. I also love that we just said “go next†and gave Flynn, Trent and Birch a crash course in Raptors basketball to end the year. We should see a good start unlike last year with a more familiar routine and longer offseason. With some better depth to withstand injuries I genuinely only see 3-4 teams definitely better than us.

Philly is a mess, if Simmons won't play for them they're not that good.
I think it's Brooklyn, Milwaukee as the top teams, Atlanta a tier down, and then everyone else. I think we're good enough to be the 3 seed, with a 4-6 finish more likely.
If our defensive wing span monster positionless basketball idea works the sky is the limit.
Listen to the Henry Ward podcast on the RR main page if you wanna get excited for Masai, Bobby and Nurse new theory of basketball. We're built to win without a superstar

I have Miami 3rd, but am not really high on them. I just think there is a lot of parity in the East. So the rankings 3-12 are very influx. I think Brooklyn and Milwaukee are easily the class of the East. And I can pretty much be confident in saying that Detroit, Cleveland and Orlando fans will be using tankathon.com a lot this season.
An injury can derail any team's chances.. and Miami has a good chance as any to fall into that trap. But I also see Butler having a great season as he gets to play with his close friend that will keep his sprits up. And Lowry will want to prove himself since he's on a new team. He's a true leader and will try to play even if banged up. The bigger issue for Miami is if Robinson plays up to his new contract and if Herro actually bounces back from a terrible sophomore season. Getting Dipo back was an underrated move too. If he can get healthy by the second half of the season, that team can be deadly. But that's a big if.
I am very much intrigued by how the Raptors are built.. but they have very limited scoring. I think OG has to make a huge leap for them to have success. What I'm worried is that teams will just play zone on the Raptors all game long, and then we're toast. We don't really have a good zone buster on this team. Maybe Trent, but he's way too inconsistent for my liking.

Maybe. The question is in key situations when the offense is in mud or the opposing defense has intensified, whom gets the ball for Toronto? If the answer is Pascal doing his James Harden impersonation then it will be the same story as last season.
I am all for moving away from three after three but strategically that means lots more possessions are required and tactically it requires the kind of creativity and ingenuity this team hasn’t shown under Nurse.

I'm honestly impressed that you'd remember my affinity for him coming out of Wisc.Heir, Prince of Cambridge
If you see KeonClark in the wasteland, please share your food and water with him.

I'm optimistic for the Raptors. They should have a high floor with great defense, and hopefully it generates lots of turnovers and transition offense, since I'm not too bullish on their half court offense.
We can't discredit playing at home either. They played a full season of road games last year. It was a total season from hell. The 4th overall pick was the compensation for that.

I honestly think Gary Trent Jr. is the most likely to take the leap. OG will make incremental improvements and develop his driving/midrange game, but Trent Jr. has the ability to be our go to bucket getter. He has that smooth athleticism, scores at three levels and has a pretty good handle.
Gary Trent Jr. needs to look to pass more and get guys involved, if he can add that to his game, I think he could be the creator we need. He’s already a good defender but needed that full off season with us to really learn our schemes.

Re the talk of where we’ll rank, I hope we manage to come out of the gates not too badly. Who knows how long we’ll be without Pascal, hopefully he comes back pretty promptly. That 2-8 start last year really seemed to lay the table for things to come… If we can weather the opening stretch, than I like the more optimistic takes here. If we get real behind off the hop, things are gonna be so even across the boards otherwise, you don’t wanna be digging yourself out of a pit.
