Wait you actually think we were trying to win games with Gillespie? We had him for 20 games, and were 7-13 with him. 20-32 without. So better record without him (granted, not by much).

The guy was an undrafted rookie. And averaged just under 20mpg. We weren't trying for those last 20 games.

I think we were trying to survive the season and have someone who could play center beyond grinding siakam and OG into dust.

He's a role player through and through. Really good defender. Usually takes the hardest assignments on defense (Kawhi/Giannis/Lebron/etc). He was a 41% 3pt shooter last year and was 92% from the line.

I don't think Dallas trades him though.

he was basically their only offense in the playoffs besides Luka. Since Zingusss went down bad.

I do not understand this trade at all.

When a team makes a trade, it's usually

1. to get a better player
2. to shed salary
3. to get prospects

The best player in the trade is Patrick Beverley, who is going to Memphis. The prospect is Daniel Oturu, who is going to Memphis. The Clippers aren't shedding much salary in this trade because Bledsoe only makes about $3m less than the combined salaries of Rondo/Beverley/Oturu; Bledsoe won't any salary commitment next year but the Clippers are already over the cap regardless so what good is that? Plus, you have to figure Memphis probably moves Rondo at some point in the season to another win-now team looking for guard depth in the playoffs.

Of course, there's always the fourth reason, which is "their star demanded it" but Pat Bev didn't lose the Clippers that Suns series, Kawhi's injury did.

Based on how its gone in L.A so far, and the team he has, it's clear that being/staying in L.A is more important to kawai than being on any better team. (Not just the raps) If anything, I think I respect that decision more than if he just bailed out.

I know nothing about how the cap works, but I'm guessing it's some repeater tax penalty that ends up equating to $30M, which isn't chump change.... even for billionaires.

I saw that tweet. $30M is a lot to us peons, but to Ballmer it should be a simple write off. According to google his net worth is $85.9B. And he uses the Clippers as a way to not have to pay taxes:
