Fischer did write about buyout. He's actually calling it the most likely scenario. But we'll see of course

I think he just is suggesting what is most likely. Again the lowry to heat made sense for a while.


Dragic doesn't make as much sense because there is no advantage to us getting a buy out and having a ton of space right now... we could have done that earliere and picked up markkenen. I don't think Dragic has any incentive not to play. If he really wants to play with luka tha bad he can wait til next year. Or give up his entire salary and we can talk.


We rarely buy guys out so I don't see the advantage.

I hope they dont buy him out. He could be a solid contributor off the bench and provide some vet leadership. If they trade him so be it, at least we get something back but a buy out doesnt seem to help us.

If he wants to be part of this team it's a no brainer you keep him. I just don't think he wants to play for the Raps so would rather move him and close the book on the Lowry trade.

$6-8M is a lot to give back for a player. Will also depend upon how much the Mavs are willing to kick in. I could see the buyout discussions right now being stuck on something like Dragic eating 10% (1.9M), the Mavs paying 20% (3.8M) and the Raps eating the rest (13.3M) and the Raps not liking that split.

Mavs can only give him $2.9M. They used their MLE on Bullock, and a bit of their BAE on Sterling Brown. The $2.9M is the rest of that BAE.

If the buyout doesn't help the Raptors enough then it's not worth doing it. But it's really up to Dragic. How much does he want to play with Luka?

Kemba gave OKC $20M of his contract, but then signed an $18M contract with the Knicks. So ate $2M of his contract.

If Dragic gives back $5M to the Raptors ($2M more than the value he gets from the Mavs), it might be something we consider. Less than what I'd want but Masai/Bobby might be able to do enough with that.

At this point, we have 12 roster spots filled (with Dragic). We have space for 2 more guys before we hit the tax. Right now we can't field all 15 players because of the tax. Although we can do that and try to shed money by the deadline (we have until the beginning of next season to clear tax).

If Dragic gives us back some money (and in my opinion it should be around $6-8M), we should be able to then fill out all 15 spots and use the rest of our MLE (about $3M), our BAE (about $3.6M) or the Lowry TPE (about $4.8M) to help do that.

So a buyout gives us a bit of flexibility.. but that money isn't really going to get us a quality player.

Yeah Fischer got a lot right this summer. He called every Knick signing. He called the Ball sign and trade, including mentioning Charlotte as the 3rd team including moving Graham to New Orlenas. Called the Celtics moves as well (both the Josh Richardson trade, and the Shroeder signing). Knew Payne was going back to the Suns. Barton back to Denver and McConnell back to Indiana.

He's going to be an up and coming guy like Shams was a few seasons ago as he gets more and more sources.
