So far it does feel like the Norm for Trent trade was one of Masai's worst trades since he's been here. Trent is still so young, but if there was a really big market for Norm at the deadline, we could have probably done better there.

Hopefully Trent proves me wrong, but he does not feel like an every day starter but more of a 6th man. Put it this way.. when we get Suggs, I'd rather have him start over Trent next season.

You guys are overreacting to a very small sample size of a guy who was thrown into a situation with a team taking a knee on the season. Trent is a good young player who has improved significantly each year in the league. He has some holes in his game but he’s not a mystery bag of magic beans. It was a good trade.

I think he's trying to buy low on a very talented player. I'd be pretty interested to see Simmons at C for us if we miss out on Mobley. Keeping him close to the basket minimizes his long distance shooting woes and gives us an extra elite passer who is nearly 7 feet tall. It would be damn near impossible to score on OG, Pascal, and Simmons. Combine that with tenacious defense from FVV and Suggs and we've got the best defensive squad in the NBA. I'd imagine Nurse has some pretty creative ways to get the most out of Simmons.

He is a low value asset. He isn't a good fit with Embiid and the Sixers, but could be somewhere else. His lack of aggressiveness and confidence was a bigger concern than his shooting in the Playoffs, and that can be fixed.

The more I read about Simmons the more it seems his issues have less to do with skill and more to do with everything that happened in Philly. It became a reinforcing feeback system, right? Trouble shooting - work on it - improve - go through slump - stop shooting cause it's embarrassing/hurting the team - have trouble shooting again.... rinse and repeat. Plus, the tanking nonsense poisoned that environment.

I think a big difference in Toronto would be Nurse giving Simmons the green light to do what he wanted offensively without focusing on fitting him into some carefully prescribed role. I get the sense in Philly that there was a lot of trying to protect him on the floor but Nurse absolutely does not do that with players. If anything, he goes too far in the other direction. Simmons unleashed could be terrifyingly good (or shockingly bad)....

Agreed. It seems like Simmons biggest issue is confidence. This has "Masai Project" written all over it. If anyone can start a fire in someone to prove doubters wrong it's Masai. Like you said, it's a cycle. Bad shooting, written about, talks of him working on his bad shooting, repeat... There is a clip somewhere from last years all star game where Harden, CP, and Lebron (3 Stooges) look like they are mocking Simmons shot. If that's happening with your peers, it's gotta mess with your head a bit.

What you're basically saying is that Simmons is mentally weak and he turtles as soon as he faces adversity. Scheme alone won't fix that. And even if a new scheme worked out in the regular season... the playoffs are an entirely different beast. Is the squeeze really worth the juice?

This could work in our favour. Because of his woes, his value has never been lower... Makes him an easier get and the talent is clearly there. Look at how Lowry developed after being challenged by Masai to become a big contract player. How much of that was Masai, or just Lowry's own desire to be better, we may never know, but I think Masai can help Simmons Get His Groove Back

Yeah I think the trade there was basic a "turn back the clock" move. Trent is the youngest on the team (till tomorrow I guess); he's got areas to develop but also a lot or runway ahead of him. I also thought the package for Norm would have been different (he was red hot at the time of the move), but ultimately, Trent at 22 is a better player than Norm at 22, so I guess it made sense from that perspective.

That's the kind of fixer upper you could conceivably gamble on the cheap, but as a 35M+ "point-guard" about to enter his 6th year on the league, still unable to shoot, and fussing about playing another position despite being asked by multiple coaching staffs? No thanks.

I don't like Simmons intensity, he walks around with a Bargnani like expression most of the time. I also don't think Simmons wants to spend his life in Ontario in January. Thirdly, he's the worst shooting major minute guard in the NBA. That's 3 very very big strikes, YERRRR OUTTA THERE

With Trent, it really comes down to who has the money to offer him a big contract. There's already a bunch of RFA's that are more desirable, (Lonzo, Markannen, Collins, Robinson etc.) so he would be below that pecking order. What playoff team has the ability to offer 20M for Trent? It's a big range but I'm guessing anywhere from 14-18M to resign him.

Philly doesn't have much choice. Simmons' value is at a low point and I'm sure they and every other team knows Philly can't win a championship with Embiid and Simmons together.
