lol. It's a pipe dream. A direct swap of Dragic for Rubio + 2RP is more realistic. Could add Boucher to the mix to make things interesting.

Another option might be just to trade for their injured players, both of whom are expiring which would give us more cap flexibility at the end of the year. Rubio probably doesn't fit their long term plans and I don't think they want to pay Sexton. Sexton is a polarizing player, but he would be a perfect 6th man microwave scoring option here in Toronto, IMO. Would fit like a glove. Problem is... what would his salary be? If not, then maybe we could execute a sign & trade.

This would turn Dragic's 19M expiring contract into 24.3M, with RFA rights for Sexton, plus a pick. Cavs might want a 2RP back.

the cavs have now lost both sexton and rubio for the season, and currently have kevin pangos backing up garland. is there a framework for a deal centered around dragic and kevin love?

would cleveland give up a FRP to get off of love's contract and acquire a competent backup point guard if they think they are poised for a playoff run? we'd need to include boucher to make the money work i think, but he's not in our plans anyway. cleveland is loaded with bigs already and would be acquiring about 27 mil in expiring contracts, would be their incentive (in addition to the help at backup PG).

love is way overpaid and has another year after this one, but has been much better and more engaged this year after spending several years pouting. the capologists can correct me if i'm wrong but i don't believe we're in a position to spend this summer anyway even letting dragic and boucher go, so his extra year is kind of inconsequential. love does some stuff this team is missing (defensive rebounding, shooting), although i'm not sure he's mobile enough on defense for nurse to play him much.

We went from 2nd in the L to this since gasol and serge left. We have the same core plus barnes. Lets lock up a solid C asap. Ayton or Turner would be great here

If Raps think Turner fits well then go for it, but being cheaper isn't a reason to sign a player when there is an opportunity for a major upgrade. If the idea is to trade Pascal then we have to get a difference maker or as close to it as possible, in return. Ayton has the better all around game, a bit younger so fits the Barnes timeline and still developing. Turner, though still relatively young, has been in the league for what feels like a long time. He's not the athlete or as mobile as Ayton, so not quite as switchable on defense which Raps want to do.

Individual DRTGs from BBRef are notoriously wonky, if that's where your data is coming from. Kevin Love has a 102 DRTG. Bjelica (100). Hassan Whiteside (101). OG (112). Pascal (112). Boucher (108).

Kevin Love & Bjelica are better defenders than Pascal and OG? By a wide margin? And Boucher (108) is the best defender on the Raps... followed by Dragic (109)?

That said, there's no doubt that Ayton is a good (and possibly great) defender. But is he worth a max salary hit to our cap... is all that I'm questioning. And if he needs to be traded, what is the future market for an overpaid max center, when centers are being de-valued faster than ever.

Well it is won't because of who they are playing with. Pascal has to play beside Precious who is good but makes mistakes and is raw... or boucher.... Love plays beside the player who by all metrics is top 4 defensively right now in his career (mobley).

Pascal has been basically the number one option here since 2019. He won a championship as the number two scorer and has improved since then. He'd be perfect for many contenders as a second or third option.

Ayton is solid, but he is playing with one of the greatest PGs of all time and if you're going for a championship, would you take the player who already won one or the player who played in his first Playoffs last season? He did get to the Finals though and played well.

You're talking like Chris Paul is a million times better than Lowry. Sorry but this old man version of Paul is pretty damn comparable to Lowry so our players also benefited from playing with an amazing PG when we won a championship.

I take Ayton over Pascal because of fit. We desperately need a C, both OG and Scottie can play Pascals position so he's expendable to make the roster more balanced, and I value Ayton just as highly as Pascal. Ayton is a strong defensive C. Pascal isn't. We'd win a lot more games swapping them in my opinion.

That said Phoenix won't want Pascal because of his contract. That's why we'd have to send them OG for Ayton. Pascal would look really damn good next to Ayton and vice versa.

Well 2X DPOY Rudy Gobert isn't Drummond either - and he was played off the floor by Nic Batum and Marcus Morris in the playoffs, so there's your answer. Given equal salary... I would expect Pascal to have higher trade value around the league than Ayton. The only advantage for Ayton would be age... if the trade partner is a rebuilding team.

Weird, I didn't once see Ayton getting played off the floor in the playoffs last season when Phoenix nearly won it all. So maybe Ayton isn't Gobert? He's actually not Gobert at all, he has a strong offensive game so your comparison there is pretty useless in regards to Ayton.

I don't know what the FO wants either, but to deploy the kind of switchy-aggressive defence Nurse wants they would benefit from a rim protector C, ideally moderately priced (in terms of contract and assets to give up to get). Turner would fit that mold.

They could also use more versatility on the half-court offence to minimize these scoring draughts, and KAT would help address that. That would require Siakam as the outgoing piece though. Starters would be Fred-Trent-Scottie-OG-KAT and that would be an upgrade over our starting 5 (at least on paper as we're we're to see who that is with everyone healthy). Team would also be slightly younger with a longer contention window.

To me as far as C's, you either sit tight and wait to draft a standard low-cost rim protector, or go for KAT or Turner. No one else out there is worth stirring the pot for imo.
