C troop proposed #4 being swapped for a bunch of picks from OKC, did not say Shai coming back. You quoted that post yourself
Shai was the 11th overall pick in his draft for the record, what makes you think Masai can't land two high caliber players in that range?

There's no way this is a real ask. More likely a poorly worded leak, where there have been a bunch of packages comprised of 2 or 3 of those parts at a time, which the Raptors have soundly rejected. Which makes sense as they only real discussion to be had is whether Philly sends Simmons for Lowry in a SnT, and maybe some minor additional compensation their way in such a deal, not another core piece or this year's pick.

4 for 6 and 16 is hardly crappy. For instance, you could have Davion Mitchell AND Jared Butler at the cost of Suggs. Lot's of options.

The Great One wrote: View PostAt this point in Kyle's career his #1 priority has to be winning another chip, no? why would he go to New Orleans?
Nola has 2 YOUNG and very good players (Zion & Ingram, both all stars or borderline all starts that are not even close to prime);
-Lots of young pieces & draft choices for a potential upgrade at trade deadline;
-Add Kyle (IMO 3 yrs 90 mil, most or all guaranteed) -Leader, champ -exactly what they need.
-Possibly resign Ball and let him slowly develop under Kyle's leadership;
I think this can be a team challeging in West for several years
-Utah -Rudy was exploited in playoffs (era of bigs gone?); Connelly older, injury prone & FA
-Phoenix -Young & big hole if Paul leaves
-Clippers -injury prone & over stretched w salaries; No trade assetts
-Lakers -Injuries, Lequeen age...
-Dallas -Luka & ???
-Portland -No Dame?
-GS -will likely be very very interesting.
How long before Ingram & Zion want out?
This is why NO has to make a run a Kyle -perfect player for them & drive up price.
Now, everything being equal, Kyle might prefer Miami or LAL or 76ers, if close $$$ but 3 yrs & 90 mil, beats 2 years & 45-50 mil.

Not two potential lottery picks good IMO. That's two years of wasted chances to draft a superstar for Shai, who you said yourself isn't a true blue superstar.

Not yet he isn't, but he's arguably on that path. And much further along it than any draft pick would be.
i'd much rather just keep #4 and draft suggs, let alone throw in a pile of additional assets

4 for 6 and 16 is crappy when it's widely regarded as a 4 player draft. Now, if Masai disagrees and wants to trade down, I can convince myself he knows what he is doing. But until that happens, given the information we have now, that proposed deal is not enough value to move out of the presumed elite tier of the draft.

NBA Draft 2018: Bagley, Porter Highlight Race for No. 1 - Sports Illustrated
In 2018 they said that the draft class would be weaker than 2017 and had Bagley unanimously first for a long time pre draft.
In 2021 we know that draft produced Luka and Trey Young, Shai was an afterthought.Last edited by c-troop; Tue Jul 27, 2021, 02:35 PM.

My proposal was just salary filler (partially guaranteeing Baynes' deal would work) plus 4, one of our 2nds, 2022 1st, 2023 swap, 2024 1st lotto protected. For Shai and 6.
I suspect OKC would prefer to leave the extra picks out of it and do something more like 4 and our 2022 for Shai straight up (which I would also be very happy with). Shai is just what the Raps core is missing (barring a true blue superstar being available). OKC walks away with one of the top 4 in the draft, a reset timer on the first big raise out of their tank, and an extra pick next year that could be valuable if we implode.

Since March there has been a consensus top 4. That hasn’t changed.
We are getting a look at other players like Barnes and Giddey and Kuminga who also look good. And will be good.
Just not in the same tier as the top 4.
Trading out of the top 4 for someone who on a clear day, with no wind and a lot of luck might be as good as the top 4 is a risky move to make based on nothing more than recency bias.
Might and could and careful development are not liberally sprinkled in reviews of Cunningham, Green Mobley and Suggs.
They are with Kuminga and Barnes and Giddey and Moody.
Ocams Razor.There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.

Nothing to do with the Raptors. The Thunder are only looking to move Shai (which is nuts) to avoid paying him, why would they trade for players who have already been paid. It's just logic.
