Birch would likely play almost exclusively at C for us. Maybe a little PF while Pascal is out, but that's it. And Birch has decent block rates, I think he's a fine rim protector. Frankly, "decent center" is about as apt a description for Birch as I can think of. Not, like, good, but decent.
Maybe that's more of a scheme thing. But Birch feels really undersized to play that role permanently.

If we can have Birch out there, and not have all our guys swarm in to protect the rim then sure.. but I fear everyone will want to help Birch leaving guys wide open for 3. That happened quite a bit last season. You need the team to trust that our center can protect the rim from a dribble/drive game.

I imagine Dekker is signing for the minimum, so no cap impact. But no report on that, maybe it's BAE or some other small exception.

The uncertainty of where we are playing and Masai staying/going isn't helping our already free agent challenged destination.

At this point, somebody like Robin Lopez is probably the best we can hope for, if we don't want to be embarrassed at the C position vs. bigger centers. Such is the life of free agency and Raptors.

I also don't think they have much issue with the bigger C's if they have Birch and Achiuwa there in place of Baynes and Boucher (with Boucher moving to PF full time).

You put him at centre for the same reason GS long put Draymond at centre - so you can murder teams with closing lineups they can’t keep up with. Frontcourt of OG-Pascal-Scottie is likely to happen if Pascal is still on the team.Mamba Mentality
