I think coming off of 2 disappointing off seasons in a row, Raps fans are entitled to have some expectations that the front office will make the team better. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Perhaps they will still do so.
I guess the first two days of free agency aren't the optimal time for fans thinking about internal development, but that is where most of improvement is going to come from. Casual fans also probably fail to see that our centre position was largely fixed even just with the additions of Birch and Gillespie last season and are therefore desperate for some 7-foot savior. Just like the good old days.
For the record, not sure why everyone is SO down on Dragic like hes a complete anchor. If you're trying to win, he will definitely help. We're all of a sudden VERY thin with experienced ball handlers. If we kept him we could either
a) have everything come together back at home and be a top 4 seed in the east and keep him for a playoff push in an always uncertain east and then he comes off the books, or
b) flip him later this year as an expiring
Yeah I see no problem keeping him into the season if nothing materializes. Connecting some dots here, he wants to go to Dallas and they probably want him, they just thought they could get him for free. Raptors have long been rumored to have interest in Porzingis, who also has been rumored to be out on Dallas and Luka, could be something there. Not a Porzingis guy, but if you can get him for Dragic, Baynes and a second why not I guess?

I hear ya but I just don’t think he will be on the team in 2 years. Are we building towards a youth movement? If so why not just let Lowry walk and offer that money to Dinwiddie or Lonzo or someone that is younger? Miami could still sign a Lowry straight up they would just have to make some sacrifices but Lowry would get to his preferred destination. I’m just hoping the direction of the club becomes clear and I can cheer that on whether it is rebuilding around youth or leaning in with some win now pieces.
edit—they clearly aren’t in win now mode I just mean I don’t see what keeping Dragic on the team accomplishes. Takes minutes away from Flynn/Trent etc.

Dragic is still pretty decent and will be tradeable anytime this season.
I think the F.O is planning on using the cap space to make an offer for one of the RFA big mans with the space moving him would free up. So not being able to get off him may cost us taking a chance on a young big like markaneen.
If lauri goes to the T-wolves for like 13 mil a year and breaks out im gonna be pissed

^This.
Markkanen or THT or Collins. There's a lot of good RFA's this year.

We arent in win now mode, but we are still trying to win every game. Playing with good players helps the developing guys, there is no rush. Build with an identity in mind, and selective about the personalities you bring in. The first year post Lowry is going to be a delicate time, one of the reasons I love the Barnes pick - culture fit is huge.
So...fans really want new players. Just not players that can help us win. Did I get that right?
Exactly. We need players that will help us win in 3 years. We arn't winning a championship next year. And Masai never wants to be in the middle, he wants to win championships.

No. Goran Dragic is 35 and doesn’t fit with the timeline of the core. I’d like to see the new players be one of the young available players that can help the team win.

Lol, and you got a like from one of your boys. Haha.
Dragic is old, we dont need him. I thought Van Vleet is the future, no?
