the plan was definitely to target Giannis for sure.. dont' think it was a messy plan but you were betting on a LOT. Covid partly ruined that plan and the obviously the bucks resigning giannis

Since we're rebuilding.
I would be ok with Boucher for Mo Bamba and maybe a pick..plus Boucher is free agent next year and I would be hesitant to sign him 2 big money. Baynes is gone, best move of free agency.

Meh. Still looks messy. The narrative here is that cap space is useful even if Giannis was no longer available and the space wasn't the max. Now that they find themselves without it, the tune changes to "oh they didn't want cap space to begin with", despite having worked towards it for years. Feels wishy-washy. If they don't want cap space, sign Lowry into it and wait for the right trade. If Lowry was determined to leave, let him go and start competing for free agents from day 1 like everyone else, even if that's no longer your first choice. That would be my preference, but hey maybe the Dragic musical chairs will work better than all of it (that's the hope). There's a lot they know that we don't.

It's too bad we couldn't find a trade that included either Hood's or Bayne's partially guaranteed contracts. Was hoping for something cool to come down to the wire via the trade market. I mean I guess that can still happen.. but was hoping to get something out of Hood's and Bayne's contracts. Oh well.

"Long term" wording to me makes me think 20 over 4 or something like that.......

If it's a 4 year deal, the 4th year will be a team option or non-guaranteed I suspect. The front office is trying to line up all their contracts to end at the same time.. like they did with the Lowry/DeMar/JV core.

Having Capspace is always a good thing. Its like a line of credit at the bank.
A bad deal someone needs to move ? Teams with that LOC can do it. You can rent our space....For a price.
Need a third team to park a contract to faciliate a deal? Capspace to the rescue again..... For a price.
Wanna bid on a targeted RFA if a team overextends in Free Agency. Bulls cough cough....Cap Space works.
.There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.
