I would be shocked if we bought him out. Why would we do that instead of a) using him as a rotation guard since we still need one of those and b) trying to get value for him at the deadline?

Just a gut feeling. I think it would be to help Dragic out so that he can play where he wants to.

Midnight tonight is when the moratorium officially ends.
But for the Kyle sign and trade, rumours were that they were going to look for a 3rd team for Dragic by sometime today (Thursday), and if they couldn't find a taker, the Raptors would keep Dragic and also get some additional compensation from the Heat (such as Okpala and/or another 2nd rounder).
I suspect if we end up keeping Dragic, we'll buy him out and not keep him. I just have a strange feeling this is the way this plays out.
The problem with keeping Dragic is similar to the "problem' in keeping Kyle: they're both old "win-now" PGs ready to help a team near contention, but won't help a rebuilding young team (on the contrary, may take development minutes away). The difference is Kyle is the perfect culture fit and could mentor the youth, while Dragic is the opposite.
I hope they're focusing their efforts on another team other than Dallas (like the Pels or even the Bulls), to be the 3rd team (or the 4th) to facilitate this unload. Maybe they could use Boucher in the mix to help untangle this hair-ball. I like him as a player I would actually rather keep him (he's a good backup 4 or 5), but if he could be offered to the 3rd or 4th team as sweetener to facilitate things and get us a tangible return, I would.

Chicago is hard capped now with Lonzo sign and trade? If we can trade Dragic into cap space what can we offer Markkenan? I don’t think Chicago is matching and we might be able to be the highest bidder and still have a below market value contract for him in the 15 range
Edit if we turn Lowry into Precious, a 2nd and room for Markkenan that is really good.

I feel we'll end up with some extra meh stuff from Miami (like Okpala and a 2nd, neither of which moving the needle much), and keep Dragic.

The way this off season is going is you have to expect the unexpected. And for me the unexpected is we keep Dragic but then negotiate a buyout so he becomes a UFA and can go anywhere (likely Dallas).

He would have to take a huge cut for that buyout. We would still want a decent amount of cap space.
I don't want this to happen. I just think this is where this is heading. Just a gut feeling like I said earlier.
We all wanted Suggs.. got Barnes.
We all wanted some action in free agency and got Sam Dekker and that Egyptian center.
We all wanted Trent to come back at around $15M.. his AAV is $18M.
We all wanted some action on Lowry.. and so far only have Achiuawa.
