DanH wrote: View PostWe're now right up near the tax line, can squeeze in a couple minimum signings as long as at least one is one of our 2nd rounders. Can't get to 15 without hitting the tax, so expect a 14 man roster with two 2-ways.
Fred VV $19,675,926
Dragic $19,440,000
GTJ $16,666,667
OG $16,071,429
Scottie $7,280,520
Boucher $7,020,000
Khem $6,349,206
Precious $2,711,280
Malachi $2,048,040
Yuta $1,762,796
Freddie G $1,517,981
Total: $133,547,781. Which leaves us $3,052,219 in below-tax space.
Minimum NBA salary this year is $925K. Two-way contracts don't count against the cap or tax, so if we want a 14-man roster, we could sign one of our second-rounders to a minimum deal, give two-way deals to the other second-rounder and one of Ishmail or Justin Champagnie, and then have $2,127,219 left over for a final deal. (This would give us the ability to sign a player with more experience if we wanted it.)

The Bulls are a worse version of the Nets: lots of offense, lots of shooting, and the defense will be just shit.
The Pacers are the same team as last year, except replace Doug McDermott and Aaron Holiday with Torrey Craig and Chris Duarte. That's the essence of a treadmill team.
The Knicks genuinely got better by adding Fournier and should be as good as last year. The Hawks will be good again, although they definitely overachieved in the playoffs this year. They'll both be in the mix.
I have us pegged in for sixth in the East right now at worst, with a lot of potential to be better than that.

thing is we will have competent center play from day one.
We are highly dependent on OG, Fred and Pascals development I won't include the rookie because we haven't seen him play. I think the bench is better so that will be a big factor. Most of the top level teams aren't deep.
We are also one of the larger overall teams. We have one small position .. point guard. In general though most people on the team are super tall.

I agree it’s all up to guys developing for us to make the playoffs, and Pascal playing up to his usual abilities.
Both Trent and OG have to have taken a leap. If Barnes comes in like Patrick Williams did, we’ll be okay.
Down the road I would like to see Boucher and Dragic on packaged to upgrade the roster.

I think Boucher and Dragic being packaged is something that makes the most sense I dont know for who though. Again may be NAW. I think it comes down to scoring and likely from the guard position.
If we want to create a rebuild package.. then trade those two for Love and get back a FRP from the Cavs. Then just buyout/waive Love. Saves Cavs cap space next season.

Based on how this off season has played out so far.. here is my ranking of the East:
1. Brooklyn - I don't see them being as hurt as last season. Plus they have some better depth than last year. Patti Mills was a great get.
2. Milwaukee - They are basically running it back minus PJ. PJ is really only useful for the playoffs IMO. Giannis will want chip #2 now that he got his first.
3. Miami - I think they might still lose in the first round, but have a lot of grit and smart players to get this high. Lowry is going to be awesome for them.
4. Philly - Too much drama with Ben and they tumble a bit in the standings. This is a ranking assuming they keep him and not trade him. If they trade him they could move up depending on what they get back.
5. Atlanta - They have a great mix of offense / defense. If they can stay healthy they will be a good team. De'Andre Hunter playing all season will be critical.
6. Chicago - I think DeMar adds enough here for them to move up into the playoffs finally.
------
7. Toronto - This is likely a homer selection. But I assume they come home. I think Pascal will rebound, and Fred gets into the all-star game. OG gets MIP nominations. #PlayInForWhat right? Well we actually try and succeed lol and are all confused by Masai's statements from last year.
8. Charlotte - I like how this team is being built. And I think MJ finally gets back into the playoffs. I think this team will be a load of fun next season.
------
9. NY - I think Randle regresses, and Thibs wears out his welcome a bit. Their off season moves were meh.
10. Washington - I think the Wizards try to get into the playoffs like last year, but don't succeed despite having a lot more depth than last year.
11. Boston - They have Tatum, Brown and who else? I think they struggle this year, especially with a new coach.
12. Indiana - They are running it back, but probably with a better coach. But too many better teams in the East. We'll likely see Brogdon being shopped by the deadline.
13. Detroit - they are so much better than last year, but need a full year of Cade to develop properly before they ascend into the next tier in the East.
14. Cleveland - one thing you can count on is them sucking. And not because they want to.
15. Orlando - they are the only team in the East doing a Hinkie style tear down / rebuild.

Everyone is way too high on Miami I think. Lowry is an upgrade over Dragic but not that big of an upgrade. That's a very old man injury prone roster that totally shit the bed last season.
Philly is a mess, if Simmons won't play for them they're not that good.
I think it's Brooklyn, Milwaukee as the top teams, Atlanta a tier down, and then everyone else. I think we're good enough to be the 3 seed, with a 4-6 finish more likely.
If our defensive wing span monster positionless basketball idea works the sky is the limit.
Listen to the Henry Ward podcast on the RR main page if you wanna get excited for Masai, Bobby and Nurse new theory of basketball. We're built to win without a superstar

An injury can derail any team's chances.. and Miami has a good chance as any to fall into that trap. But I also see Butler having a great season as he gets to play with his close friend that will keep his sprits up. And Lowry will want to prove himself since he's on a new team. He's a true leader and will try to play even if banged up. The bigger issue for Miami is if Robinson plays up to his new contract and if Herro actually bounces back from a terrible sophomore season. Getting Dipo back was an underrated move too. If he can get healthy by the second half of the season, that team can be deadly. But that's a big if.
I am very much intrigued by how the Raptors are built.. but they have very limited scoring. I think OG has to make a huge leap for them to have success. What I'm worried is that teams will just play zone on the Raptors all game long, and then we're toast. We don't really have a good zone buster on this team. Maybe Trent, but he's way too inconsistent for my liking.
