Raptors have upgraded everything in the organization to world class in recent years, but the broadcast team is still a relic from the old Craptors days. Way overdue for a full rebuild, not just a makeover.

This is true, and while I totally on board with giving Alvin a shot, he just doesn't have the feel of a world class commentator. I never got the sense he was entertaining or particularly informative either. Hope to be pleasantly surprised.
But then we have some examples where it doesn't work. Chris Webber is really bad at it for example, and he does nationally televised games. I'm not a big fan of Reggie Miller either. Magic Johnson back in the day wasn't great either.
But Bill Walton was amazing. He also had a huge personality though.
Hoping for the best for Boogie, but I think he'll end up being pretty dry and boring as well.

It will be nice to get a former player (not too far removed from the game) commentating on the game. Almost refreshing because we get a different take on what guys are going through.

Who will be there to tell Matty D he's fat and eats too much ice cream, then play it off as a joke, then passive aggressively bicker with one another for the next 7 minutes of a tight game?
Enjoy retirement Leo
It always felt like you were the uncomfortable third person in the room when they would do that. It seems like there was some underlying tension that takes away from the broadcast

Yeah, there are a lot of great former players that actually have some personality which is sort of what you want when you tune into the game. Mo Pete would be great I think, maybe Doug Christie as well if you want to stick to former Raptors. Bosh would never leave Miami or whatever warm US city he's in now, but I could see him and actually being funny together. Lots of options.

Lol Mo Pete? Mo Pete was one of the worst ex athlete turned broadcaster i''ve ever seen. I don't think he lasted 2 years on TSN.
Anyway, the answer to this question is pretty easy: Vince Carter. He's a natural. Dell Curry is also pretty good but he's with the Hornets. I think Cory Joe also has potential(if he wants to do it).Mamba Mentality

They tried Mo Pete and he didn't really click. Doug Christie is pretty good, but he's a bit removed from the playing days. I like when former players get those extra inside scoops and share stories and insights about current players who are actually playing the game... even that night. Jack is basically just slightly more connected than the regular joe, simply because he's been given that platform by the network. Ideally, it's a recently retired player who is highly respected by his NBA peers and maybe played on a lot of teams, so he's got a big network. Richard Jefferson is a good example. Maybe a guy like Jarrett Jack, if he's got any type of personality. Or Amir Johnson?
Jefferson just seems to prim and proper for a former player, but he'd definitely bring the quality of the show up a few notches. Not so sure about Jarret Jack, but hey another JJ (Reddick) is recently retired. Agree with Mars, Danny Green would be great as well.
Mugsy was loved by fans when he was here, Landry Fields or Shawn Marion were pretty comfortable in front of the microphone as well.
