Big issue with Thomas Bryant is his injury history. Since being drafted he has played the following amount of games.
Year Number of Games 17/18 15 18/19 72 19/20 46 20/21 10
He hasn't played this year because he is still injured. If he comes at a cheap price sure but that would be my concern.
In the big picture, the market for centers is getting smaller every year and we'd be taking on a max contract center if we signed Ayton? What's he looking for... $35M/year? No thanks. I can't see any traditional center like Ayton providing that much more value than Jarrett Allen, who is a legit all-star this year and making $20M/yr. Only Gobert has an argument for being worth the max for that type of one-dimensional center, and Ayton is nowhere close to Rudy.

He only makes $8.7M this season, and is a free agent next season. Gettable depends on if the Wizards want to keep him or not. They also have Gafford and Harrell. Harrell will be a UFA as well though.
To Raps: Dinwiddie (or Bertans), Hachimura, Avdija, Bryant, unprotected FRP
To Wiz: Siakam, Boucher

I would propose getting Bryant via trade, with other young prospects and at least 1 FRP from the Wiz for Siakam & Boucher.

Yep. Injury history is definitely a big gamble with Bryant. Doesn't seem like he's got any chronic issues, like foot problems that big men typically have. Maybe that would keep his price tag down and then if stays healthy you have a real value contract.

Bertans is not good. Rui, I am not sure he hasn't played yet this year. Dinwiddie is alright but we don't need his skill set do we? We are giving up a solid ball handling play maker and getting back a guy who largely chucks. and guys who don't play defence.
The objective of this trade would be to get young players with upside (Bryant-24, Rui-23, Deni-20), plus a pick.... to match Scottie's timeline. Deni is a 6-9 ball hander and a top defensive player by almost every advanced metric. Rui is a strong 6-8 with length and a switchable SF/PF. Bryant is a versatile big. All 3 of them are improving as 3-pt shooters. They are already proven NBA players. If our development program is as good as we say it is, then think of these 3 guys like getting Fred/OG/Pascal, 3-4 years ago.

The Raptors roster is really so poorly built if you think about it. They have shooters who can't shoot. Big men who don't play like bigs(and aren't really bigs). They don't have a backup PG. And Yuta Watanabe is their best bench player. Think about that.
Nobody ever criticize Masai because he was the architect of the 2019 team but the only good move he's made since winning the championship was drafting Scottie Barnes.Mamba Mentality

Yeah this is probably the best Pascal package I've seen that both seems realistic and something I'd be okay with as well. I'd try to get Gafford over Bryant though. Gafford is that traditional role playing big that helps protect the rim, and doesn't need the ball too much. Like Zubac for the Clippers. Those guys don't make a lot but are really valuable. Gafford makes about $13M a year and will be a UFA in 2026. No options.
My offer would be Gafford, Bertans, Avdija and their 2022 pick unprotected.
Then the Raptors line up next year becomes more traditional: Gafford, Barnes, OG, GTJr, FVV. Bench: Yuta, Avdija, Bertans, Precious, Birch, Flynn, Banton, etc

Why does Ayton rate so low on advanced defensive metrics, then?
You can look at the players the Raps have and ask why their defense is ranked so low when they feature players like OG, FVV, Barnes and Siakam. The system the teams run has a lot to do with it. I think Ayton would fit really well with what the Raps a re trying to do.

The best part of that package is honestly that unprotected FRP. You can't really trust the Wizards, especially now in the East with so much parity. So that could be a decent pick.
